The 5 million number is something I'll have to think about. All Paitishek have tails and I'm thinking there's probably more than 5 million of them, but I'm thinking there's not more than 20 million total. At the time I wrote this chapter, I think I'd decided there were only 5 million. They haven't been around that long, actually, like maybe 40 years at most. I'm probably going back through this book to do a final polish after I get helpful responses like yours and the Paitishek population is of the very few things about the worldbuilding that I'm still thinking about. The hipocracy of Saanah's employers is definitely a thread that's worth following. Your observation here is very very keen and I don't think I could have described it better myself. I'm going to be exploring this in future chapters and works in this story universe.

This was fun to read, a lot of philosophy that I was uncomfortable with, though discomfort often leads to a broader horizon. Either way there were a couple things I thought was odd about this section. First off, when Saatra? I'm forgetting the main characters name. When she was talking about prehensile tails she threw out the estimate of five million. This would lead us, the readers, to presume that the Paitishek don't all have prehensile tails. Since this is a race that makes an entrance somewhere in the far future and human society is already in the 7 billion numbers. So, even with the total population count nowadays, the Paitishek with prehensile tails would be about 1 out of ever 14. Just an interesting demographic I noticed. from the way it was spoken of it sounded far more common. The second thing I noticed was when The main character was speaking of her employers and how they'd end her. I thought the paradox of eliminating the most rich and most powerful was interesting; mostly because in order to eliminate these targets you have to be richer or more powerful. Plus destroying your own employees is something the rich and powerful would do, rather than trying to find another resolution to the issues presented.
