I've been steadily going absolutely insane over the last week as I've tried to recover from the crushing weight of the last major update. While I think I've got most of the issues all ironed out, I still feel really awful about what happened there. As I said in the last entry, I want to never let an update go that badly again and I committed to ensuring as best I can that that turns out to be the case.
To that end, I've established some new processes on my end for how I run my update build compiles. I've actually gone out of my way to develop a proper flowchart for how it'll be done in future, so as to be absolutely certain that the updates are tested fully and properly, by me, as best I'm able. The mistakes that I've made in the last update should be eliminated by this new process, but I won't say for sure until it's been implemented a few times. Never will I assume my own competency!
That said, I'm continuously buoyed by the support and understanding that the Void Dreaming fanbase has been presenting me through all of this, and I want to say a wholehearted and very humble thank you to all of you for that kindness. It's been what's kept me going this last week, and that's not even close to an exaggeration.
0.03.53 Update Notes
But you're here for the update! This is a much smaller one, designed to just correct a few lingering issues after the last hasty build was put out last weekend. So what did I fix this time?
- Bugfixes: There's been some big ones here. Among them are Zuberi potentially dragging you out of your room to chat and then going to sleep in the main corridor (not just uncomfortable, but also a safety hazard), Caleia taking a break from invoking time travel to instead teleport your mind into the rec room while she keeps you occupied in the commissary, and more!
- Continuity Fix: Following certain engineering bay teambuilding exercises, some outcomes didn't actually result in actions that made sense. Now you can make sense of the chaos.
- Typo Fixes: The eternal struggle continues, with no end in sight.
And that's about it, save for one more thing! Since it's been a week since a major release, it's that time again. That's right, it's almost Reader Q&A time again! The second Void Dreaming Q&A livestream will be taking place exactly one week from now on (what is for me) the 21st of June at 10am! Thank you Forester, it's very kind of you to say! Cutting myself slack really just isn't in my nature, unfortunately. On the one hand, it helps me to push as hard as I can do do as well as I can, and that constant drive to improve has led me to do where I am now. On the other, I'm very aware of how it's probably not the healthiest approach and I do tend to exist in a constant state of near-burnout. But hey, no pain no gain, as they say! I'm so glad that you're enjoying the VN so far though, and thanks again for the kindness. It's very much appreciated!

I'm not exactly inclined to stop working to make this project as good as it can be; that includes keeping the fixes coming. I'll only have more to do once the project gets bigger and even more complex, heh.

While it is great that you have been so on top of everything and addressing the problems so rapidly, I genuinely think you need to show yourself way more slack - you clearly are working insanely hard to keep on top of everything, and full dev teams with dedicated programers and testers have things like this happen all the time! Considering your pace and quality of work, things like this sometimes happen, and I think you deserve absolute credit for everything rather than being self-discrediting about some issues on a build launch! You're doing really, really well!
