Hey!
I'll be making a few changes soon: monthly pictures, new reward tiers and charge up front. This post is meant as a heads up but also to gather your opinions on this stuff, so do let me know what you think!
Charge up front:
This is something I have to activate per e-Mail, which I haven't sent yet, so it'll be a couple of days before this goes live. Here's what it does:
- In the future, new Patrons are going to be charged immediately after pledging.
- Existing Patrons won't be charged when the switch goes live and instead will be charged on the 1st of each month, as usual.
- When raising your pledge, you'll be charged immediately with the difference to your current pledge.
- Lowering your pledge won't result in a refund.
This is to stop people from raising their pledge, get the reward, then lower it again. I've only been on Patreon for a week and I'm already seeing this happening. If you're not okay with this change, please feel free to un-pledge. It's fine, no hard feelings!
You can read more about this here and here. It seems to work exactly like you'd expect it to work and doesn't seem to have any catches for either the Patron or the Creator.
PS: Got it confirmed that it works exactly like described above, even though noone got charged until now. So you won't be charged upon the switch and if you raise your pledge afterwards, you'll still be charged the difference to your previous pledge, not the full amount.
Monthly Picture!
Each month I'll be making one picture and you guys vote on the character. It'll be a pinup style picture, not super explicit hardcore stuff. There might be the odd exception here and there, but generally I like the softcore approach better when it comes to pictures.
New Reward Tiers!
In addition to the existing rewards and tiers, I'll be adding a few new ones:
- 2$: Vote on monthly picture - That one pic is guaranteed, but more than one pic/poll per month might happen.
- 5$: Vote on some animations - Unless there's already something I really want to do, I'll let you guys pick the next animation.
- 10$: You'll get a watermark-free version of my stuff - With each release I'll attach the file to a post. There'll also be a link to a Mega folder, where you'll find previous watermark-free works. That link will be changed each month.
- 20$: Early preview of rendered shots - As soon as a render is finished, I'll upload a clip of it for you guys. Until I finish compositing the final shot, which might take a day or longer, you'll have exclusive access to a near final release. Everybody will get access to the final version at the same time though! Click here to see the difference between this raw and the final version.
Polls will be held on Google Forms, so you'll need a Google Account in order to vote. If I catch people cheating this system, I'll switch to alternatives, I've already scouted out. They're more work for me, which is less time I can spend on smut, so consider this when trying to play unfair!
I'll be rolling out the new Reward Tiers first, so you guys will have a chance to switch into whatever Tier you want, before charge up front goes live. After that, switching to higher Tiers will charge you.

Got it confirmed that noone is going to be charged upon the change, unless they raise their pledge. In that case they'll be charged with the difference to their previous pledge amount, regardless of the fact that my current Patrons never got charged.
Thanks! It's true, the 10$ and 20$ rewards aren't really much of a reward. I'm having a hard time coming up with more ideas for rewards though. Moving some of the rewards into the higher tiers would be an option, but I deliberately put most of them into the 1-5$ range, since this is where I imagine the sweet spot for most people is.

I think it's a good change, as I've always seen Patreon as the "Fuck-I-LOVE-this-guy's-work-I-wish-I-could-do-something-to-return-the-favour" website, and I don't MUCH care for rewards (Which is why I'll probably up my pledge to $10). Unfortunately I think most people look at the tier rewards when deciding wether to pledge or not, and with that in mind I'm not sure if the $20 rewards will cut it for many people. I do hope the Google Forms voting thing works out, it sounds like a good idea!
I'm all for it. If the charge goes through right away I'll need to wait a few days (damn rent, life, etc) but anyone with functioning eyes in their head can see $10 is worth the pristine non-watermarks. Hell your work in general is worth it. I will say the $20 option seems a bit superfluous for just early renders. Not trying to shoot m'self in the foot here, but for that much I feel like that tier should get, like, an exclusive piece of work not shared elsewhere.
I get that, but I see it more as a thank you, than a reward, cause the watermark is already pretty unobtrusive. For pictures I'll make it half the size of what it previously was, after some people complained about it.
Boy, $10/month seems pricey for watermark-free versions. I can't do that, but I wish you success and good fortune in the future!
