“Admiral,” Serina began, her tone calm but authoritative, “we have confirmed Covenant activity on Malastare. Data collected by ONI shows unusual ship traffic, unregistered energy structures, and strategic movements that indicate the presence of an outpost. However, this is larger than we expected.”
Arnet narrowed his eyes as he stared at the dots marked on the hologram. “How large, Serina?”
“Considerably,” the AI replied, zooming in to show the entire planet. “We have detected at least six major facilities spread across Malastare. Each is connected by an underground network, likely used to transport resources. They are mining large amounts of exotic fuel, suggesting that this planet is not just a refueling station. It is a critical node for their fleet in this sector.”
Arnet crossed his arms, processing the information. “Then we cannot waste time. If we take out this node, we will significantly weaken their ability to operate here.”
“Correct,” Serina confirmed. “However, the problem is the native population. The Dug do not seem to have knowledge of the extent of the Covenant presence on their planet. Any operation without their cooperation could become complicated.”
Before Arnet could respond, the bridge door swung open and Asajj Ventress entered with her characteristic confidence. She wore a basic black uniform issued by the UNSC, but her bearing and aura of danger were unmistakable. The officers watched her with a mix of suspicion and curiosity.
“Admiral,” Ventress said, bowing her head slightly in a gesture that could be interpreted as respect. “I request to join the mission to Malastare. My experience in infiltration will be invaluable. Besides, if the Covenant has something to hide, I am the best choice to uncover it.”
Arnet eyed her skeptically, keeping his stance firm. “Why should I trust you, Ventress? This is not a Sith battlefield where you can play your tricks. Lives are at stake here.”
Ventress gave a slight smile. “Because unlike others, I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I have already proven myself in previous missions, and you know that I am not interested in betraying what remains of this galaxy. I am here because I want to destroy the Covenant as much as you do.”
Before Arnet could respond, Aayla Secura stepped in. She had been on the bridge, watching silently until that moment. “Arnet, Ventress is right. Your experience could be crucial. Besides, I will personally monitor your actions. If you do anything out of line, it will be my responsibility.”
Arnet was silent for a moment, assessing the situation. He finally nodded. “Alright, Ventress. But I warn you: one wrong move, and you won’t get another chance.”
Ventress bowed her head again, this time with a more calculated smile. “You won’t regret it, Admiral.”
As Ventress retreated to prepare, Aayla remained close to Arnet, watching as he returned his focus to the hologram of Malastare. She stepped forward, softening her tone as she placed a light hand on his arm.

Aayla smiled slightly, letting her voice take on a more caring tone. “Trust me. I can handle it. Besides, it’s not just about what they know of the UNSC or the Republic. It’s about showing that we’re here to help them, not control them.”
Arnet let out a slight sigh and nodded, though his expression remained serious. “Okay. But I want you to be careful. If the Dug refuse our help, we can’t afford to delay. And I don’t want you to put yourself in danger unnecessarily.”
“I know,” Aayla replied, gently squeezing his arm before retreating. “Don’t worry, Arnet. This will work out.”
As she retreated to prepare, Arnet couldn't help but glance briefly back at where he had been standing, reflecting on the connection that had formed between them.

Beside them, Asajj Ventress stood silently, her hands folded and her expression unfazed. However, it did not go unnoticed that the soldiers were watching her warily.
“Are you sure you should be here?” one of the ODSTs commented, breaking the silence. “It’s not exactly your territory.”
Ventress looked up slowly, with a sharp smile. “I can handle myself, soldier. But I appreciate your concern.”
Shadow intervened before the tension could rise. “Focus on the mission. We don’t need internal conflict right now.”
As the floodgates opened, the group descended the ramp. In the distance, a group of Dug waited with their arms crossed, their faces expressing distrust. They were armed with makeshift rifles and ancient rocket launchers, but their posture was alert and defiant.
Aayla Secura was the first to advance, leaving the ODSTs and Ventress behind. She was wearing her Jedi robes, but had left aside any adornments that might directly associate her with the Republic. Calmly, he raised his hands in a sign of peace and began speaking in the native tongue of the Dug.

The Dugs murmured amongst themselves, but Grekk-Tor did not seem convinced. His gaze shifted to Ventress, who stood a few steps back, her figure shrouded in shadow. "And what of her?" he gestured sharply. "I recognize the mark of the Sith. We do not accept traitors here."
Ventress, accustomed to accusations, stepped forward, ignoring the hostile glares of the Dugs and ODSTs. Her tone was cold and direct. "I am not here to please you, Dug. I am here because I hate the Covenant as much as you should. If you wish to refuse my aid, go ahead. But when your homes turn to ashes, remember this moment."
The murmuring among the Dugs increased, but Aayla raised a hand to restore order. She turned to Ventress and looked at her sternly. "This is no time for threats, Ventress."
She then turned her attention to Grekk-Tor, her tone softer. “I know you don’t trust us, and I don’t expect you to right away. But consider this: the UNSC has already lost planets to the Covenant. We have fought and bled to stop them. We are not here to occupy Malastare. We are here because we know what will happen if we do nothing.”
Grekk-Tor remained silent for a moment before leaning toward Aayla. “You speak eloquently, Jedi. But words will not stop the invaders. What guarantee do we have that they will not take our resources after eliminating the Covenant?”
Aayla stepped forward, placing herself at the level of the Dug leader. “Malastare will not be ruled by anyone but its own people. I can promise you that the UNSC will not take one ounce of its fuel or set foot here once the Covenant is eliminated. And if they ever try to do so, I myself will be on your side.”
Grekk-Tor raised an eyebrow, surprised by the sincerity in his voice. However, he turned to Arnet, who until that point had remained silent. “And what does your commander say? Does he share your promise, Jedi?”
Arnet stepped forward, his expression hard but not hostile. “We are not here to plunder, Grekk-Tor. We are here because we know that if Malastare falls, this entire sector will be in danger. I do not need your trust, but I do need your cooperation. If you choose to fight alone, you will not survive. If you choose to fight with us, we will win.”
After a few tense moments of deliberation, Grekk-Tor finally nodded. “You have one chance. One. But if you betray us, we will fight you both.”
Aayla exhaled in relief as Arnet nodded firmly. “We will not waste it.”
The Dug leader raised a hand, signaling his men to lower their weapons. "We have reports of strange activity in the northern regions. We will assign you guides, but your soldiers will have to prove themselves."
"We will," Aayla replied, grateful for the small but significant progress.

Shadow stared at her. "We're not here to play games, Ventress. This is a professional operation. Remember, you're under our supervision."
“Don’t worry, soldier,” Ventress replied with a flash of sarcasm. “I can handle it.”
Minutes later, the team boarded the Pelicans, which flew them silently toward the objective. The dust-laden atmosphere made visibility difficult, but the pilots were skilled, guiding the ships through the turbulence to a remote canyon that offered natural cover. The ODSTs descended quickly, their cushioned boots hitting the ground noiselessly.
“Operation active,” Shadow reported over the comm. “Drones, deploy.”
Small reconnaissance drones, silent and stealthy in design, rose into the sky, sending real-time data back to the team. Tactical visor screens began to light up with three-dimensional maps of the surrounding terrain.

As the drones scanned the area, the images revealed something even more worrying: underground tunnels connecting the facility to other points on the planet. Power readings indicated activity at at least five more facilities, all camouflaged beneath the rugged terrain of Malastare. "If the Covenant completes this operation, they will have fuel and supplies to support a massive fleet throughout this region," Shadow concluded.
The situation grew more tense as the drones detected an increase in patrols. Light vehicles were heading toward the team’s observation area, as if they had detected something out of place.
“We have movement,” an ODST reported. “Three vehicles approaching from the east flank. Estimated time: two minutes.”
Shadow activated the command channel. “All hands, defensive positions. Do not reveal our location unless absolutely necessary.”
The atmosphere in the makeshift camp was tense as the ODST team downloaded the information they had gathered. Holographic images and three-dimensional maps of Covenant facilities projected onto the screens of their tactical visors, revealing the massive scale of the operation. Confirmation of a network of interconnected bases on Malastare had elevated the reconnaissance mission to a critical priority. But just when they thought they were safe, the sensors began flashing with warnings.
“Movement on the perimeter,” one of the ODSTs muttered as he raised his rifle. “Covenant patrols, ten meters south.”
“They found us,” Shadow said coldly. “Everyone, defensive formation. Stay hidden and silence any enemy that gets too close.”
The team quickly scattered, hiding among the rock formations and dense vegetation. The first enemies to arrive, a group of Jackals and Grunts, moved cautiously, their tracking devices glowing in the darkness. “Do you always have to be so theatrical?” Shadow whispered from his cover position, as he watched the maneuver with a mix of irritation and respect.
“It’s my style,” Ventress replied, smirking as she deactivated her makeshift weapon. “And it seems to be working.”
Despite careful maneuvering, the situation became critical when a Hunter appeared on the horizon, its massive figure illuminated by the reflections of its fuel cannon. Shadow made a quick decision.
“Team, fall back to the extraction zone. We can’t stay here any longer.”
The team moved quickly, covering each other as they fell back toward the Pelicans waiting for them in a nearby valley. Ventress, bringing up the rear, used her makeshift saber to deflect the most dangerous shots, while the ODSTs provided suppressive fire. By the time they reached the transports, the pilots already had their engines running.
“Get in quick!” one of the pilots shouted as the Pelicans kicked up dust with their engines. The ODSTs boarded one after another, with Ventress being the last to jump aboard before the ships took off.
From the air, the team watched as Covenant forces converged on the location they had just left. Shadow relayed the collected data directly to the Infinity over a secure channel.

“All of this… on our planet?” Grekk-Tor asked in disbelief. His tone changed from skepticism to concern in a matter of seconds. “We can’t face them alone.”
Aayla spoke up, her tone calm but firm. “The UNSC is willing to help, but we need your full cooperation. This is a threat that affects everyone, and together we have a chance to stop them.”
Grekk-Tor crossed his arms, clearly fighting his pride. Finally, he sighed. “They have our cooperation. But if this turns out to be another betrayal, they will pay in blood.”
Ventress, watching from the side, smiled with barely contained satisfaction. “It seems we did a good job.”
Arnet ignored her comment and turned to the Infinity officers. “Prepare a full report for the strategists. This is no longer just a reconnaissance mission. It’s time to plan an all-out offensive.”
