How to Recognize Genius When You See It
🕑 Added 2023-11-20 08:00:02 +0000 UTC(NOTE: There will be no new comics next week. Covid. It's a mild case. Already feeling better, but it has thrown the schedule off. I think the fact that it hit me right after a comic about my experience traveling should not be taken as a coincidence. Sorry for the gap. I'll be back soon.)
The attached photo doesn’t quite do the effect justice, but it will still serve as evidence. This hotel lit their room primarily with what appeared to be ultraviolet light. I gotta say, I’ve never been more certain of a room’s cleanliness, because knowing the light would make some disgusting messes more obvious, I looked high and low for a stain. I was almost disappointed when I didn’t find one.
Another weird move the hotel made was in the restaurant. It is rare that I eat in a hotel’s attached restaurant, but I was really tired and really hungry, which is not a state that leads me to make great decisions. I think hotel restaurants count on that. Anyway, I slumped down in a seat, pointed dumbly at the name of the main course I wanted, and sat there in a stupor until the food came. When it did, the side dish looked like a large puck molded out of boiled spinach. I cut into the disk out of a sense of obligation and found that the wet leaves were just a thin layer covering fried potato slices.
Why?! Why would you do that? Why hide something delicious completely under something nobody wants to eat? If anything, you somehow hide the boiled spinach inside the fried potatoes! Or put the spinach on a separate plate, preferably on someone else’s table.

Well at least they didn’t use industrial strength UV lights like that NFT conference that damaged a bunch of people’s eyes.

You make a good point. They should try to not remind people what kinds of messes are possible in a hotel room.

Yeah, I think they may have outsmarted themselves here. Even if the blacklight is not showing any stains, it is reminding you of the stains you might be seeing. It'd be like if you went to a restaurant that brought out the silverware for the table in a bucket with a sign that read "We assure you that all of this silverware has been thoroughly washed, so there's no reason to worry about how many different mouths it has been in."
