It's "Dry January," and so this week we took a look at the sobering and sometimes confusing world of alcohol research. If you've ever been confused about contradictory stream of headlines about moderate drinking - we hope our latest episode brings some clarity.
Last week we hosted our very first Science Paper Book Club - and it led to a lot of really interesting discussion about who's most susceptible to misinformation - and how you would even figure that out. Our full recording of the meeting is now available to all paying tiers if you want to catch what you missed.

This makes me think about over-the-counter pain meds for some reason. Like how I just pop a couple ibuprofen whenever I have a headache. How does it work? How does it affect my organs that have nothing to do with the pain I feel? Are the brands marketed toward specific pain really any different from generic brands? And why aren’t they addicting like some prescription painkillers . I could try to answer these questions myself but I love your videos too much not to share lol.

Despite the suggestion that it was a "messy" end to the episode, I think it leaves the issue a lot clearer than before the episode started. Peoples' different ideas of what counts as "moderate" drinking probably led to a lot of well-intentioned self-harm as a result of the J-curve inspired advice. Also, a little woo-hoo for fellow Australian, Tanya Chikritzhs being featured in this episode!
