LIFE DRAWINGS FROM PHOTOREFERENCE #179: The digital era begins, as of 2019!
🕑 Added 2023-04-10 13:00:04 +0000 UTCWellp, all of my analog-media sets of sketch sets from photoreference from my life drawing heyday of 2017-2018 have now been posted here, so I'm moving on to feature my earliest stabs in digital media. Yay?
The first art app I tried out was MediBang Paint, but I never did any life drawing via that vaguely CSP-like software. However, while I intensely disliked almost all of MediBang's default brushes, the oddly (mis)named "pencil" brush proved useful; via the aid of helpful art students at a 2019 convention in Phoenix, I found an equivalent brush in the better-known art app Procreate.
Our first sketch was drawn via Procreate's "Medium Hard Airbrush"...
...and was based on a ref photograph of a cosplayer, though I have no idea what videogame character her costume was based on:
That's a pretty sweet original photo, which I might well consider tackling again with a modern-era Clip Studio Paint sketch sometime. Gotta say, judging by the fact that I was already tinkering with drawing complex fantasy costumes four g-d years ago, that I must've been contemplating a fantasy comic for quite some time.
Thanks to Procreate's "timelapse" feature, I do in fact possess an MP4 video of this sketch's process, but I'd have to put that up in a separate video post. Would that be of interest to any of youse?
Finally, we close out this post with another Procreate sketch set using that mushy but handy "Hard Airbrush" tool. Both Emp(?) faces are obviously my own stylized creations, but everything else in the set was drawn from pohotoref.
Anyhoo, onward! Brace yourselves for a long stretch of Procreate sketches before we gradually move into the Clip Studio Paint era, all right?
NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: Ehh, we'll almost certainly be seeing something in the Distressed Damsels vein for the $5+ tiers, as I need to start knocking off my thrice-monthly allotment of DiD content—much as, of course, I need to complete my thrice-monthly output of Life Drawing posts.
