WEEKEND BONUS POST: 1997 GEN13 lingerie trading card(?) illo!
🕑 Added 2022-06-18 18:03:08 +0000 UTCAs a quick weekend bonus for all you kind Patrons, here's an illo I did back in '97 for Wildstorm's ever-burgeoning trading-card division, this time featuring Gen13's Caitlin Fairchild for a "Lingerie Collector's Pack" campaign.
Seriously, at $250 a pop—in brawny 90s dollars, mind you!—for line art on a fairly dinky piece of artwork, these trading cards were quite the devil's candy for Wildstorm artists; I occasionally heard editorial complaints of artists winding up late on turning in scheduled comic pages because they were pounding out trading-card illos willy-nilly at a vastly higher worktime-to-income ratio.
Note that I didn't write the copy on the back of the card, but did draw the little superdeformed cartoon headshot of Kat.
Note also that this is one of the very, very few times I've ever drawn thong underwear—or a thong bikini bottom, for that matter. Golly! (Someday I should probably explain my reason for that ongoing omission, which I can assure you is none too progressive.)

Wtf would I ever trade THIS for?

Smaller than that; the main image was probably 5" X 7" or so.

You don't need to worry about offending up. We don't have sticks up our assess and we're definitely not authoritarians.

With rates like that, I would probably only be drawing trading cards too! lol

“Fairly dinky piece”? How large was the original art in this case—8 1/2 x 11?

Nice that you made her look sexy without exploiting her most infamous physical attributes.

BTW, $250 in '97= about $500 today

Well that's pretty fun. She's got a neat, copic look to her colors too.

I must admit, now I am curious about the thong omission...
