DISTRESSED DAMSELS: Rose vs. "the Warlord of the Ecliptic," pt.2!
🕑 Added 2021-08-04 13:00:09 +0000 UTCFollowing up on a post from last week, here's the rest of an incomplete, 2003-era commissioned Dirty Pair comic featuring Kei-- nay, Rose-- facing off against "the Warlord of the Ecliptic," a fictional character from 22nd-century pop culture played by her early-adolescence crush, the actor Jude Lomani (as seen in 1999-2000's miniseries DP: Run from the Future).
Wellp, this is as far as the story progressed before other work intruded (or I burned through the commissioned pagecount, just as likely), but the easily guessable punchline of the narrative would've been that we're seeing a DP: SimHell-style erotic interactive simulation from Rose's POV, which explains how the heck she's being distressed by a hunk who's actually fictional within the context of the DPverse (or R&Lverse?). Golly!
In fact, one of my dozens—okay, hundreds—of unused Dirty Pair story concepts would've involved the Angels hacking into a hapless target's masturbatory erotic sims and messing with him in a strongly Inception-ish manner, though I worked up this idea long before Nolan's movie. (Note that I later used a toned-down version of this idea in the unpublished story Dirty Pair: Quick & Dirty. )

Yep, Rose looks _so_ upset by her predicament at the end there. Those unpublished/unused story ideas sound pretty good, too. Plenty of chances for DP humor and fan service, and the Angels being embarrassed by the target's/their own revealed 'tastes', lol.

So somewhere in the multiversal stack there's a comic where Rose & Lily go into a Sim to role play as Kei & Yuri, and the villain of that sim goes rampant and pulls them into a sim where they end up as hapless trainees Rose and Lily, but in the end it turns out that all along it was Kei and Yuri creating a sim for their doppelgängers to use before going in the field, except in the last panel we see that it was actually Adam Warren drawing a comic.

I wonder, would that unused concept happen to have been planned as Dirty Pair: Power Fantasy, which was mentioned in Run from the Future as a possible followup, or was that something else? Also reminds me, I had a dream once that got interrupted by a lengthy interstitial ad for some scammy browser toolbar that promised discount shopping; I wonder if that ever happens with some of these sims, where Jude Lomani will just randomly start spouting off about all the ways you can save on your insurance needs just as the climax is coming (although I suspect that any insurance ads targeted at the Lovely Angels would encourage them to please buy from the competition)
