DISTRESSED DAMSELS: Nanogoop VINTAGE CON SKETCH edition!
🕑 Added 2021-03-24 13:01:03 +0000 UTCFrom some point in the second half of the 90s, here are a pair of Vintage Con Sketches featuring my version of the Dirty Pair bedamseled by chrome "nanogoop" along the lines of the hostile nanoware seen during parts of the SimHell miniseries.
Note that the colorized montage piece...
...was done by my buddy Ryan Kinnaird at a time when we were trying to figure out potential color schemes for a legitimate, in-continuity Dirty Pair project; quite possibly this was a test for (unused) nanogoopy SF imagery in the eventual 1999-2000 miniseries Run from the Future.
These two con sketches weren't just (nano)goopy, but also more than a tad icky, given the very bad touches on Kei in the foreground. This is rather more extreme content than I usually did in my commissions, as with the anomalous nudity in the next "Y**i" sketch:
As I've mentioned before, I generally wasn't a big fan of drawing "deathtrap" or extreme peril scenarios, but occasionally did a few such sketches based on very specific commissions. (That said, my recent foray into "deathtrappery" for Empowered vol.12 was actually surprisingly entertaining to work on, so perhaps I was missing out on potential Emp content.)
Note that I was considering labeling these sketches as alt-scenario, suspiciously bondage-prone "Rose & Lily" rather than the actual Dirty Pair, but the labeling of the piece above as "Y**I IN PERIL" conspicuously contradicted that approach.

Simhell and all the nanite goop has been a big favorite of mine. Would have been great id you'd been able to do something set during the nanopocalypse

I agree, as I’m not a big fan of this piece, which is why I subsequently avoided further commissions along these lines.

Although it's cute to see the lovely angels in the nude, I'm personally not keen on the overall feel of a helpless naked female character in genuine threat. I prefer a nude beach scene, or a shower, or some kooky clothes disintegration scenario.

Gotta say, it's always weird seeing outright nudity in your work. Kinda got used to never seeing Emp's nipnops.

Generally speaking, that's correct (even in commissions), making this piece a definite anomaly.

Before I scrolled down to the specific caption for it, that last pic made me immediately think 'wow, that's a lot more perilous than usual for these shots!' 'Bad touch' on Kei, hahaha. I can hear her thinking 'JFC! Was _every_ one of these stupid traps programmed by horny perverts?!' Of the color set, the first, sort of cream-color one provides the best contrast I think. It avoids looking like more generic 'slime', and contrasts well against their skin tones.

I'm fairly sure that there's no technical reason why nanogoop couldn't taste like evil pudding (probably butterscotch?). If it's being served nyotaimori style like this, I might even try some.

Removing the tech-greeble lines in coloring the nanogoop does tend to make it look like they're just being assaulted by evil pudding....
