VINTAGE CON SKETCHES: The letter V strikes!
🕑 Added 2021-02-19 14:01:01 +0000 UTCI'm finishing off the last few pieces from my old CON SKETCHES folder, this time featuring a trio of illos with "letter V characters." Yay!
First up is a sketch based on "Valkyrie Wylde," the faux videogame character that the Playstation magazine PSM created in the early 2000s as a "nude-code Tomb Raider" knockoff game for an April Fools' joke. I did a few pieces of alleged promo art for the character, which I'll have to dig up sometime.
Note that she's dual-wielding the Ruger P89 9mm semiautos that have often appeared in my work, as they were very easy to reference, if you catch my drift. Alas, they were easy to ref, sure, but also very hard to draw, due to all the bevels and scallops and peculiar angles infesting this model's slide and frame. (Life would've been a lot less frustrating for me as an artist if I'd owned a nice, boxy, easily sketched Glock instead.)
Next up is an especially ambitious "double-page spread" Valkyrie Wylde sketch which I stalled out on for some reason:
Note that I was employing the same "dual-wielding" photoreference that I had earlier used for "gunplay Caitlin Fairchild" in 1997's miniseries Gen13: Grunge! The Movie.
Next up is a con sketch of the character Vision...
...from episode 7 of the original Bubblegum Crisis OAV anime series. Yay!

I'm on Chrome, and the pic only shows up in the gallery shot under the header pic. I can click on it and see the full-size version, though. So, was the idea for VW 'Lara Croft is wearing too much clothes'?

Chrome 88. Not showing for me. Edit: OK that's odd. The sketch shows up in the gallery below the post header and I can click on it and view there, but the picture embedded in the post (surrounded by text) is showing as a broken link. What Dean said.

Ah, Valkyrie Wyld. I was so bummed when I realized this was an April Fool’s prank. It would have been so cool to play a video game festooned with your artwork. Perhaps someday?
