DISTRESSED DAMSELS: Jamadagni in peril VINTAGE CON SKETCH edition!
🕑 Added 2020-09-30 13:01:03 +0000 UTCI recently unearthed a few 1998-era damsel-in-distress commissions featuring Jamadagni—aka "Witchy-Poo"—from my '97 one-shot Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone. As she is supposed to be a witch of sorts, the commissioner wanted her depicted in various pseudo-historical witch-related scenarios.
One such situation featured our heroine about to burnt at the stake in some vaguely medieval setting:
Never fear, no doubt a time-traveling iteration of Cap'n Thug would come to her rescue; or, more likely, this might be an interactive simulation of some sort, as with the various highly unlikely Dirty Pair DiD illos and stories.
Anyhoo, as with most Vintage Con Sketches, I had to scan the piece above from a rather so-so photocopy, as the illo predates me even owning a PC (I think). However, I did find the commission's initial rough sketch kicking around in a pile of old artwork:
The next 1998 piece up featured poor suspected-witch Jamadagni strapped into what I thought was referred to as a "dunking stool," but turns out to be referred to as a "ducking stool" or (ahem) "cucking stool." Here's a version the piece scanned from a photocopy:

And the same (small-P) patron sent along a later commission featuring the aforementioned Cap'n Thug firmly chastising poor Jamadagni:
Little does this commissioner know that I directly copied this piece's poses for a Shasti/Kei "chastisement piece" (re)drawn for another patron; alas, I haven't yet dug up a decent jpeg of that very, very similar illo.
Note the hyperstylized noses on the various Jamadagni faces, which would be replaced in my artwork with the entirely different "minimal nasal indication" visual riff in only a few years. (Jama's partially closed eyes in the last illo are also a now-discarded stylistic flourish from the laste 90s.)
TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Not yet sure; I'm mulling over putting up a super-duper technical post about comic-page grids and varying text usages therein, based off a bunch of experiments done as research for Empowered vol.12. (Might be waaaaay too technical for most Patrons, though.)

Hey, I was trapped on TV Tropes a while back, and I noticed that the article on "Super Weight" treated Scissors Paper Stone as being part of the DPVerse. Is that even remotely true? (Fun Fact for insane pedants: Scissors Paper Stone does at least potentially tie into the Tommy Westphall Universe, and since Star Trek TNG is part of that, and "Keiyurium" is the power source for the holodecks among other references, it is technically possible that the anime DP are canon to Scissors Paper Stone, but by the same logic, so is Degrassi.)
