I became a Pacers fan by chance. I'm from Australia and was a huge Chris Mullin and Warriors fan. So when he got traded to Indy in 1997, I followed and became a Pacers fan. I have been ever since so lived through the 99 ECFs, the 00 Finals, the 04 ECFs, the Malice at the Palace etc etc. I can honestly say that this year's Pacers team brought me the most joy as an NBA fan in all my years of following and, even though it ended in devastating fashion, that joy cannot be taken away. So this resonates with me Caitlin - as your work usually does - because sports is about moments. Moments of joy, moments of fun, moments of disappointment and pain. But those moments are why we follow. So thank you for all you do to enhance our fandom.

Glad it was something you could connect with

Ever since Game 7, I just couldn’t move on. I haven’t even dared to watch the highlights, let alone any replays of earlier games. I turned off all the YouTube channels and commentators I used to follow—only checking quick news updates now and then, hoping the latest Pacers updates might make me feel a bit better. That moment when Haliburton went down in the Finals… it left a scar almost as deep as Artest’s punch or Reggie’s layup that never was. Easily one of the three greatest heartbreaks in Pacers history for me. But in the past few days, as new players started to arrive and Kevin Pritchard finally spoke out, it feels like everyone’s slowly starting to heal. With next season beginning to take shape, I came back to your blog - and found this beautiful piece waiting. Excellent article. I love this one so much! I totally feel it ! Thank you for writing these for love !

Thank you Caitlin, Thank you Tyrese, and Thank you Pacers! I was not a fan of the Pacers team until the playoffs. I have slowly lost interest in the NBA over the years. Pro basketball has became so data driven and commercialized in the last decade. While the skill level is at an all-time high, I can't recognize the game that I felt in love with as a teenager. More specifically, the heliocentric basketball maybe super efficient and competitive, but it hardly resembles the team sport that captured my mind and passion. THEN this team came along! Thank you for reigniting my love for basketball! This team will be more memorable and meaningful to me than any champions in the past 7 years.

Just when I thought I was done getting emotional about it… Great article.
