The Pacers need to make the "play better" adjustment

Thanks, Jay. Very cool background story with your dad, too!

I love what you do, by the way. Can't remember if I've told you this but we had similar youths -- Dad was taking me along with him to scout games and future varsity opponents by age six, clipboard in hand. Charting not just shot selection/ makes but also who blocked out, who didn't, and where from what spot on the court did teams give up rebounds. So we sit in the corner of the arena because we hate the center-court sideline seats and from where we sit we get a great view of the interior play. And thus, Turner is probably my least-favorite Pacers player ever. And it is hard to top Herb Williams or even Clark Kellogg in that category but I dislike Turner's lack of interior defense and his shot selection even more than I dislike his lack of rebounding. He does occasionally make the highlight reel. Of course, my season tickets are also about ten feet from his family in the corner so I try really hard to yell, "Could somebody care about rebounding?" instead of what I really think. Ha. Our team is still 2-3 years away, and my concern is that front office and portions of the fan base may not have the necessary patience. I already don't like giving up 3 #1's for a thirty-year old and really don't like a max contract for a guy that will be on the wrong side of 32, 33 years old when the rest of this roster is ready to contend. Unless, of course, we get the good fortune of matching a mostly healthy roster against playoff teams missing their stars. That was a lot more fun than having patience to complete the rebuild they were under. Always happy to be a subscriber to your work.

Good insightful article

Caitlin Cooper

Definitely missing hot girl basketball

Brendon Bowlds

This is sad The defense doesn't even bother me because I miss our high powered offense so much

Caitlin Cooper

All of that is fair as things stand now, I think. When he's good, he's very good, and when he's bad, he's very bad. Offensively, he complements Siakam quite well and allows them to access a wider variety of alignments. Defensively, the fit is not as clean, along with the rebounding issues that you mentioned. The series against Boston in the playoffs was certainly eyebrow raising.

Really like Mathurin. Such an interesting piece.

Flyover Country

Painful to watch, but well done. It's hard to coach want to. Mathurin and Jarace have some skills; but as CC shows so clearly, something is not clicking.

This was so freaking good.

Turner was barely even going through the motions last night. And we even out-rebound MIA last night although that was a function of garbage time starting early. But I’ve been saying nearly every game for the past 3-4 seasons that a starting lineup featuring Turner at center just isn’t very good. It’s exacerbated now that Smith is gone, Jackson is injured, and the Wiseman reclamation project ended after just one minute. We don’t currently have other capable backup C’s to cover up for staring a backup-caliber C like Myles.
