Delicate fox ears, the same ethereal silver, twitched atop her head with every contraction. Nine luxurious tails, each tipped with a different elemental rune, lashed behind her in pain and impatience. Sweat glistened on skin so flawless it seemed carved from spirit jade, sliding down the generous swell of her breasts, tracing the curve of her massively pregnant belly before disappearing beneath the thin silk barely covering her hips.

She pressed cool lips to Yuelou’s temple again and again, whispering encouragements in the secret tongue of foxes.
Around the bed hovered six female elders of the sect, each a legendary beauty who had long transcended mortal desire yet still felt their hearts clench at the sight of their Sect Master in such vulnerable glory. Healers in translucent white robes moved with graceful urgency, hands glowing with gentle green spirit light, guiding the birth with techniques passed down since the primordial era.
Another contraction ripped through Bai Yuelou. Her tails flared wide, knocking over a jade incense burner. The scent of Thousand-Year Dream Blossom flooded the chamber, thick and intoxicating.
“I can’t, I can’t!” Yuelou sobbed, voice cracking between woman and beast. “It hurts too much—”
“You can,” Huo Qinghong growled, low and fierce, leaning down until their foreheads touched. “You are the Sovereign of Ten Thousand Tails. You swallowed a star when you were bored once. You will not be defeated by our child.”
She captured Yuelou’s lips in a deep, hungry kiss, pouring her own draconic vital essence straight into her wife’s meridians. Crimson-golden light flared between their joined mouths; Yuelou’s trembling eased, her body arching in sudden pleasure-pain.
The head elder, a serene woman with hair like living starlight, placed both hands on Yuelou’s belly. “Now, Sect Master! The little master crowns! One more push with all your love!”
Bai Yuelou screamed, a sound that shook the floating palace and made the cherry blossoms outside whirl into a pink typhoon, and pushed.
There was a wet rush, a burst of silver-gold light that blinded everyone for three heartbeats, and then, the thin, furious cry of a newborn.
Silence fell, broken only by that furious wail.
The starlight-haired elder lifted the child carefully, reverently. Blood and vernix glistened on perfect porcelain skin. A tiny shock of silver hair already crowned the head, and when the infant’s eyes snapped open in outrage at the cold air, they were molten gold shot through with rings of purest black, twin eclipses in a sunrise.
The elder’s breath caught. Her spiritual sense swept the child once, twice, then a third time in growing disbelief.
“Sect Master…” Her voice trembled. “The child… the child possesses both a Heavenly Yang Core and a Heavenly Yin Core simultaneously. Perfect, flawless, in complete equilibrium. This… this has never existed since the Primordial Yin-Yang Gods themselves walked the cosmos.”
A collective gasp rippled through the chamber.
Huo Qinghong’s golden eyes went wide. She reached out with trembling hands. “Give him to me.”
The elder obeyed at once, wrapping the babe in phoenix silk before placing him gently into the dragon empress’s arms.
Huo Qinghong stared down at the tiny, furious face, and something ancient and fiercely protective cracked open inside her chest. “Look at him,” she whispered, voice thick with emotion. “Those eyes… exactly like mine. My golden eyes.” She laughed, a watery sound, and pressed a kiss to the baby’s damp forehead. “Hello, little treasure. Daddy’s here.”
Bai Yuelou, exhausted but glowing with a mother’s radiance, lifted one shaking hand. “Bring… bring him to me.”
Huo Qinghong slid onto the bed, cradling mother and child both in her strong arms. Yuelou took the infant with reverence, cradling him against her bare breast. The moment skin touched skin, the baby quieted instantly, tiny mouth rooting instinctively. A soft silver tail, barely more than a fluffy stub, curled around his mother’s wrist as he latched on and began to nurse with surprising strength.
Yuelou’s eyes filled with tears. “He’s perfect,” she breathed. “My perfect little star.”

Huo Qinghong’s arms tightened. “Let them come,” she said, voice a low, dangerous purr that made the temperature in the room spike. “I will burn the Eternal Sky itself before I let anyone touch our son.”
Bai Xian’er leaned over, brushing a gentle finger across the baby’s cheek. “What shall we name him, elder sister?”
Yuelou was quiet for a long moment, gazing into those impossible golden-black eyes that stared back at her with an unsettling intelligence for a newborn.
“Li… Wei,” she said at last, the name tasting like fate on her tongue. “His name will be Li Wei. The one who returns from beyond the veil.”
And in that moment, in the tiny, perfect body nursing at his mother’s breast, the soul that had once belonged to a jaded, pleasure-hardened escort from a mundane Earth stirred. Memories crashed over him like a tidal wave.
