Brief Info About V 0.0.4 Progress
🕑 Added 2022-02-09 19:37:01 +0000 UTCHello people, today I'm going to write a brief info about the progress of Innocence Or Money V 0.0.4.
First of all the release date will be revealed only 1 week prior to the launch, instead like the last time that I announced like 1 month before. (At any moment I can say, 'In a week a new version will launch') so stay tuned :)
Size / Length: The update will be over 30 min of gameplay and about 6GB of content, the 6GB brings some issues (Android version cannot be over 2GB) so I will try to prepare 2 versions of the game, a Full HD version (the one that is 6 GB) and a compact one that will have less quality images but that will work in Android devices (and other devices too). If at first I don't release this compacted version, I will do it later, that way the other players don't have to wait for the launch
New places / characters: There are new places and characters in this new version
Paths / Routes: There are many paths/routes to develop and it is not possible to work all paths in every update, so in each update only some paths will be worked on, not all of them.
Version renaming: I'm thinking about renaming the version, instead of V 0.0.4 it could be V 0.04, I think this is clearer for the future, for example, it's clearer and easier to differentiate between V 0.1.0 and V 0.10, in my opinion V 0.10 is much clearer for future versions.
New Upload Location: I have to find a different place to upload the game than MEGA, because I think MEGA has a limit of 6GB so if you want to give me more ideas on where to upload the version once finished, that would be cool :)

I will have to give a try to find different strategies, trying to not sacrifice too much quality for a better size, will try webp and jpg too and evaluate the results ;)

Actually, that's a good point. Each free user has a 6GB daily limit... Maybe you could break the game up into chapters or parts? Or convert your pngs to webp or jpg as someone suggested. Or just lower the resolution to simple HD instead of 4K and stay with png.

Hello Kaycee! it's a mix of 2 things, the first one is that the game is heavy on renders (I'm making a lot of renders for each update) and the second in that the rendering engine produce/built an uncompressed png. I tried compressing pngs without losing quality but at most I can reduce 30% of it's size, so 6GB turn to about 4GB but this is still not enough. This is my first game and still learning, indeed is a problem that at an early stage the game is getting so big, so I will have to find a solution :) I have to see and try webm and see the results. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hey Disi, indeed with a Mega subscription I can upload a lot more, but I think the problem is for the one that download it, I think it ask to have an account to download more than 5 or 6GB, you know if I get a subscription it works for both parts? (uploader and downloader)

What’s causing the size? You may also need to think about reducing it since this game is still in an early stage and likely to increase substantially in size. Heard some developers converting images to webm without really experiencing quality degradation for example.

I would think that if you get a paid MEGA subscription, you'd be able to upload more than 6GB. Certainly I've downloaded larger games from MEGA, so there must be a way of putting up larger files.

Woohoo! That's exciting news! I have a Megasync, so I can get large files, but Google drive is certainly an option. Torrent isn't as convenient.

So far I didn't have in mind uploading it as a torrent (have never uploaded a torrent before) will have to see how to do it, but I think I will try for the next version other alternatives likes Google Drive / One Drive and alikes. Thanks for the suggestion :)

For upload locations is a torrent with a random name an option for backers then when the release goes public name it appropriately?
