Week 8 progress update
🕑 Added 2023-01-06 10:37:33 +0000 UTCThis week I focused on 2D SDF and 2D animation. My aim was to create an animation to illustrate some properties of the classical solution to the analytical positioning problem. I developed a bit of animation infrastructure that will be useful for other videos in the future. I also arranged things so that I could easily try different palettes. I used https://coolors.co/ to generate some palettes and tried them out in the video. This is the one I started from, which I generated myself. The video I am attaching here was obtained with a darker palette generated by the site. I also tried this one and this one. You will notice that lines and points have a bit of shadow. I created this effect using the SDF representation of the picture. For every pixel, I ray-march towards the light, I find the closest shape and check whether it occludes the light source or not.
I also experimented with Gimp to create thumbnails for the video. I aim to upload the video to my YouTube channel sooner or later. I expect this video will have a very narrow audience. It is probably not much useful to build up views, except that it will give me some experience that may be useful for future videos...
That's all for the Christmas week.
