HoGW Special: My Single Person
🕑 Added 2016-12-25 00:12:02 +0000 UTC I am alone inside these wallsI am alone in this bone dome
It is my mind, my home
It is my place, my abode
But there aare things here
Not living things like me
In that sense I'm truly alone
But still, there are things here
Dark things, light things,
The deep and shallow
Sad things, happy things
The sweet and mellow
Things that pull me here and there
Things that cause to do this or that
They are here
In here with me
But I'm alone here
Alone with naught but these
These unliving but lively things
They change me
They do! They do!
I am never without them
Accompanying me, beside me
Inside me, around me
Am I really alone?
I have all these things with me
Always and forever
Never am I without them
I sit in this dome of bone
In these sealed walls
Surrounded by this horde
This mob of thoughts and feelings
This crowd of contemplations and sentiments
And I dare call myself alone!
Wait!
Perhaps I am wrong on both counts
Perhaps I am right in some sense
Perhaps I should look at it differently
What if I am alone?
What if there is nothing else?
What if these things,
These thoughts and feelings
Are naught but me?
What if there's nothing in these walls?
Nothing but a conscious guiding will
And the many fragments of thought
Of memory and emotion
Ofreason and sentiment
That come together
To make up my person.
By Diana Linedell during her inquiry on the nature of the mind and the soul.
