Status update (September)!
🕑 Added 2023-09-30 15:45:04 +0000 UTCTo better help fans understand the ongoing development, monthly status updates are being posted here on Patreon (at the end of each month) with a listed summary of all the work that's been done for each department. It won't list every single small change, but at the very least show the broad strokes of what's currently being done. This will paint a clearer picture of the development progress and perhaps get a feeling of how close we are getting to a release each month. Hopefully this will make some of you feel at ease with some of the questions you've had.
That being said, here's the status update for this past month!
Art:
- Assets made for anal Crystal sex scene variant.
- School classroom reworked to allow layering of all desks and chairs.
- School classroom crowd remade to match the new improved look for background characters.
- Added additional crowd layers to the Museum locations for extra variety.
- Smith office cutscene converted to night.
- Mia sex scene and stripping assets extended to widescreen.
- Converted some of old Roxxy assets to the new rig.
- All minimap icons now have overlays covering the outlines where trees and other objects overlap them to give depth.
- Anon assets on the pier fishing and diving properly split shadows and extended.
- Extra shorts overlays for Roxxy sitting on the bed created (were previously missing).
- Roz's name tag now properly flipping where character changes direction.
- Missy's home location now has evening and night variants added, as well as all buttons for navigation.
- Created art for the future Rhonda update which was also used in a recent wallpaper.
- Continued assisting the Code/Posing devs with optimizing art and fixing inconsistencies. Such as unused art assets , missing shadows, missing character button variants and so on.
- Additional rooms are being worked on for the Bar and Missy's house.
Code:
- Finished writing logic all of Debbie and Jenny's repeatables. \o/
- Completed the hint app, and connected it to Debbie and Jenny's routes.
- Added scrollbars to the phone apps to make clear when that action is possible.
- Improved lust mechanic tracking which will govern some random events.
- Posed telescope scenes and linked to wiring.
- Added support for compiling animated layers, and used it to animate pool water.
- Revisited how modes are implemented to make them more reusable.
- Moved the GUI in a more dynamic direction to work better with modes.
- Cleaned up NPC tracking for first-seen quests.
- Refactored some entity behaviours to allow for saner organisation.
- Simplified NPC name prompts for Debbie, Jenny, and Willow.
- Tweaked step definition to allow for steps that do not advance progression.
- Enabled engine features to improve text quality.
- Ensured telescope scenes won't conflict with NPC actions.
- Made it possible to sleep at the beach house.
- Wired basic button for Lily.
- Applied a new higher priority to fully-passive handlers.
- Moved common logic helpers to a new module to eliminate name conflicts.
- Changed where dynamically generated logic is stored to aid migrations.
- Shifted the inventory implementation to a more generic interactive prop.
- Brought various interactive prop implementations up to the current standard.
- Improved code organisation for some of the interactive props.
- Added a test to catch accidental misuse of new passive priority.
- Wrote a new lint rule to catch unused context being passed to handlers.
- Fixed notifications not being dismissed if clicking too fast.
- Applied potential fix for apps bleeding over between windows on PC.
- Fixed a class of bugs related to time ticks being prematurely cancelled.
- Solved a problem where some backgrounds would be the wrong time of day.
- Reduced some unwanted background TTS triggers.
- Created new system for tracking which lewd options are available in events.
- Dropped disused mutex governing NPC movement.
- Various fixes for Jenny's route, Debbie's route, and prop metadata.
- Other minor improvements to help keep the codebase readable and consistent.
Posing:
- Restructure and link Jenny dialogues to the new game logic (in progress).
- Tweaks and adjustments to Debbie's linked dialogues.
- Tweaks and adjustments to early Main story scenes.
- Tweaks and adjustments to the Tutorial scenes.
- Revisions and additions to dynamic shots .
- Minor art renames to fix oversights.
- Fixed some out-standing issues with Jenny's route and sex scenes.
- Taken screenshots of all the missing assets/backgrounds for Jenny/Dewitt/Main Route 2.
- Added new labels for Jenny's Shower RNG.
- Fully reposed Dewitt's Route minus a few button labels needing staging.
- Fully reposed Dewitt's Sex Scenes.
- Fully reposed Okita's Route.
- Fully reposed Okita's Sex Scenes.
- Continuing posing on Barbara, Crystal and Clyde.
Writing:
- Wiki has been updated with current character assets and walkthroughs.

Okay from I quickly read, idk if this is scope creep or are you like unable to predict how much time tasks take, but you're doing a lot of work that is not really a priority for the fanbase and even though this has been communicated as only a "tech update" adding random stuff. Which if it only slows you by a little bit, that little bit is now months of development seeing as the last big update was literally 2 years ago. Been a Follower and Sub for a long time and as a game designer myself i understand how long this tech update is gonna take. The fact you all have to remake all assets and code for it is crazy. the tech update is not available for download yet. currently, version 20.16 is available for download. there are several downloads available: 1 for windows etc. no download for iphone/ios as apple has a policy regarding adult content. i have seen or read something about addons to make ios versions but havenāt tried them. go to summertime saga website for the full release. there are other websites you could download from but i canāt vouch for safety. good luck

You're talking about his colorful tracker for Art Tasks, Posing Tasks, Writing Tasks, and Code Tasks. Yes, I DO know what you're talking about. It doesn't tell you much more: #724 Wide: Location Beach, #928 . Yep, that helps a LOT. A in posing could be "Katya Button", or it could be "RE-repose entire game again". It still doesn't tell you how much is actually left. Whereas you may not care when it's released, it seems quite a few people (myself included) do. SS has been in development for seven years now (first release was in August of 2016), and the tech update alone is pushing three years. You can't honestly expect that there would be no frustration. Let's dispense with the tried and true "Nobody says you have to support it," and the old standby "If you can't afford $12 a year, go fap to another game," as they get old. We're all here because we want the game to succeed. However, that doesn't mean we have to simp for DC while he takes his sweet time fixing his incompetence.

I've given more than the obligatory dollar in the past, and continue to do so. Do not presume to think you know what you're talking about. That being said, even $1 supporters have all the right in the world to talk about a developer who simply doesn't release content. I could care less about a wallpaper, I could care less about each individual task (Drew upgraded freckle on Judith, Upgraded nipple art on Roxy, etc does NOT tell us when he might release the tech update). FYI on there discord is a bot that you can request a update whenever at no tier. Literally says what percentage is done and what is currently being worked on and it moves by a measly .5% maybe every month? Sometimes more sometimes less. Anyway I used to be on the $10 tier since before the tech update started and it has been years now since they have started this with no end in sight. All those of us are asking for is transparency. Those of us that have been here for years feel like we are being dragged along and used.

Setting up the new rig system, including a means to let us use our old saves, add new material, make sure all interactions in all arcs and overlapping arcs etc all work. Once they committed to the new rig system, every detail has to work and every character, every element, in every scene in every story arc has to interactā¦correctly. Its not a cave painting, itās thousands and thousands of pictures and parts. Patience, young grasshopper.

I'm not complaining against DC and his development team. In fact, I checked the development tracking tasks on tracker, and I'm happy in what I see. I upgraded to $5 tier, (and no more than $5 tier, unless it's a poll), just to see that tracker tasks. Arts and writing are already done. Posing has 12 posing tasks in progress, and 7 posing tasks left to do, and that's it for Posing! The Code bar is a bit of work. There are 3 Code tasks in progress, and most of the code tasks have been done, and there's tons more code on a new rig (new system) to be done. So really, after Posing, the Code is all that's left to do, and it's a bit more work. I'm not a coder, and but I do understand some computer stuff. (I'm not a professional. I'm an amateur at best. I did some web design and some code before). But yeah, Coding is a bit of work and some pains to do. It's not fast. It's work. I can give it least 2 years of developmental work left to do and (perhaps 1.5 years if they pick up the pace?), based on the amount of code work left to do. All in all, I'm very much happy on the progress. They are working their ass off on this. Because there's more than one posers in posing field, that posing tasks is soon quickly coming to a close. Again, I say that the Code is all what's left to do. And a bit longer at that.

Lol, I've been waiting for almost 3 years patiently.. but patience has to be earned! When there is no real progress in game development and they just keep piling on more and more graphics to keep the fanbase happy, it's just getting ridiculous! Don't get me wrong, I've played the game from end to end, read all the dialogue and done it all, I love it and I find DC to be a great artist! But I simply can't see how porting the game to another platform would take such a long time! Get the job done before, keep the streaming to once per week until the update is done!

Yes, I know we all did. ;-) But I remember what he initially laid out what the tech update would be. It was to redo the all background art for a wider display view. Then work on the character's story like Rhonda, Annie, etc., and tackle a few more technical items. Next thing you know he's redoing all the character's art and rigging, Adding more places in the town. Adding bonus animations (at least he released those). He could have released updates once he had all the old background artwork converted. Regardless, the way I see it he's overhauling the entire game. I'm not against it all, I love his work... I just have to call it what it is, a remake. Sorry, if I sound difficult. Not my intention. I appreciate your response. Hopefully, we get to play this game soon.

Most of the visual novels made by the female artists took 3 to 6 months max, for the male designers it was 6 to 9 months, and they were working with maybe .1 percent of what his budget was for those two years. Lying about what the stuff us supporters are voting for is good way for him to lose his support except for you bootlickers.

Thanks for the āUpdateā. Just took a stroll through actual game update releases the last major update was March of 2021. In 5 months we your patreons will have gone 3 years without a major update on this game letās put this in money terms at around that time he was making about 80k per month and it stayed that way for a year then it dropped to 60k per month and that lasted until April or May of this year. In those two years he has raked in 1.4 million dollars there is no excuse for him to not have this ātech updateā , Rhondaās and Annieās storylines wrapped and released with Judith in the coming months. I cancelled my pledge in April and just jumped on today to see it hasnāt changed in the last 6 months will be dropping my patreon again and see where it is in six months two dollars a year wonāt break my bank. Itās just sad to see how far DC has fallen since 2018 when I first subscribed to his patreon from 2018 to 2020 he completed three arcs in Jenny Diane and Eve on his timeline he set. Just to remind you he had actual timelines for releases back then Rhonda was 2021, Annie was 2022 and Judith in 2023. Once that remake(tech update) was voted in he removed the roadmap and timeline from summertime sagas website and discord.

Nevermind the monthly 'status updates' that only present arbitrary information about some supposed update progress, with an invisible timeline. - But trying to "Satisfy" your fanbase with this and the odd high-def graphic background is stringing people along. Clearly NO real progress is being made, but still raking in over 60k pr. month from devoted followers (me personally since 2019) but followed since 2017. If DC & crew doesn't present any preliminary date or at least a sped up launch of this AWESOME game, i'm pulling my pledge along with presumeably alot of others by end of 2023! i agree 99% half of the problem seems that he is an artist and wants the game to look great or be up to his standards. still the community wants to know where we are, if not in time at least in a percentage. But both could backfire. 1) people will get mad if the progress is to slow be in in percentage or time left. 2) if i acknowledges the update wont be there before summen 2024 patreons might leave.

Darkcookie Has 9 people working for him, But even then 4 years later we still have not even an estimation date. Mate I know its a pain in the ass, but if you are a coder you choose that as a job... also I know that not always adding more coders is helpful especially when your coding new things. I might be wrong I havent started my coding classes yet so I dont know much, however, I have seen mates of mine set up apps in a week or two for the sake of projects for uni, some of which required animation displays connected to machines in labs and stuff like that. All I know from this game is that for at least the 3 months ive been checking the bar and coding seems to be at the same percentage and is the area that needs the most work.

But if I update to $5 tier membership, I could get all the information I need to be satisfied. The real reason we haven't gotten a release date is there would be a mass unsubscribe until that day actually comes. If DC comes out and says "X month in X year" everyone would just leave the Patreon and check back in then. We're all staying at this point because it's still an "any day now" feel. I liked this game and can afford a dollar a month. I hope to replay it when the update comes. But for now, I'll wait patiently hoping I'm not an idiot who will wait forever

I get why the Devs don't want to do a release date because they might not hit it and we can't see real time progress because the percentage bar doesn't update because it's not a full task or whatever, fine. But can we at least have a list of tasks for what the update will need for completion because as nice as it is that we know the game's being worked on, we have no point of reference for what this means to an update. Writing about a task you did means nothing to us unless we know that we can knock that task off a list of however many left to get to where all of us want to be. Yes sometimes problems will surface and more stuff will be needed to be added sure. But if you're transparent about it and give us accurate updates then this community would be so much more forgiving. I know these updates were made to be more transparent about stuff but it doesn't do anything for practically any of the fans who just want news on this update.
