Koppen climate previews
🕑 Added 2024-06-06 14:52:27 +0000 UTCA couple of higher-resolution climate runs I did to get input data for that ice sheet model and final erosion runs; first is an "ice age" climate with 25 degrees tilt and about 12 C average temp, second is a "modern" climate with 28 degrees tilt and 18 C average temp. Neither were run totally to balance--I'll do a proper final run when this whole procedure is done--but they'll do for input data.
Somewhat relatedly, I am possibly maybe considering trying to put together a new climate classification scheme to fill some of the gaps in the Koppen scheme (not just accounting for stuff like extremely seasonal or hot climates but changing some of the input data to more directly measure stuff like growing seasons and aridity), but I probably shouldn't dig too deep into that until I've finished the terrain procedure.

The catchment does include a fair bit of wetter land to the west and south, but this is part of why I do want to try building a hydrologic balance model.

I looked at both climate models and the terrain preview and I'm wondering if the enclosed ocean within the right continent is stable. For both ice age and normal climates, about half of its small catchment area is extreme desert. The rest of the drainage basin is universally dry during normal times and mostly dry during ice age conditions, so I can't see how this ocean would be stable long term. I think it would dry up similar to how the Mediterranean did on Earth during the Messinian salinity crisis. What are your thoughts on this?
