This creature need to be their next meal haha. Great read! I feel that the orcs are out of their fields, i cant wait to see what will appear from their adaptation to the sea

Red Bombadil

Those are really, really good ideas!

Sir Arthus

I don’t know if there are long term plans for the Final Internment and her role in form of a power up for Dom (I think she has the potential to be an insane nightmare of the seas especially with Doms potential to upgrade her with xp), but if you want to reduce the impact of the ship´s cheat ability a bit more, it may be a good idea to diminish the buffs effects in general without losing its role in the scene. Something like: Containment: Be it man or monster, this ship was designed to shatter all hopes of escape; +30% ship durability, improved durability point distribution against “unarmed” / ”blunt” damage. (The idea is for the effect to be specialized for the containment of disarmed captives, no matter their race and base stats) I think that this would be even a good reason for Dom to discard the ship in the short/long run because his main enemy´s are other humanoids using artillery and spells in ship battles. Also, the idea to own a ship designed to specifically prevent escapes should resonate badly with his experiences around his title as “Slaver” no matter how strong the effect is.

Love the insight! I didn’t specify because he needs those sails, but I wouldn’t include those in the ship’s cheat ability. The supposed counter to the ship’s durability is how horrific it’s going to be with speed/maneuverability- if they couldn’t tie the monster down they’d have nothing. Having trapped animals in my younger years, I can say that tying something down is half the battle. Harpooning a monster to keep it from escaping is great … so long as it doesn’t turn around and destroy you, your harpoon, ship, etc. (yay for near invincible ships!) Sea urchins are a good example! I’ve tried to show the versatility of different weapons (how awesome spears are …) but it tends to get lost with how I try to show everything else too. :P

Sir Arthus

Nice fight. But I´m interested… Does the distribution of damage count for every part of the ship? Even the “flexible” parts like sails, ropes etc? Cause that would seem to be insanely op ^^ Some input about the monster fighting: I guess slowly whittling these hp sponges (monsters) down from a position as save as possible is the established and most effective method of fighting/hunting them in Doms world. To restrict the monsters therefore seems to be the number one priority. I guess installments of contraptions inspired by modern harpoon launchers used for whaling, would be a very obvious artillery piece if you ever wanted to actively hunt monsters. In case of Dom and his ships, an easy tactic to level the playing field against attacking monsters should be him sinking to the bottom of the ocean. There would be far fewer dead angles for the artillery of his future ships if the monster is forced to attack from the sides or the top. He might also get an upgrade option to his ship’s exterior being covered with barbed or sharp extensions. They might reduce maneuverability and speed but if they are upgradable to be retractable/collapsible or easy to remove and reinstall, they should provide situational but good defense (Sea urchins are using this strategy quite effectively 😉) and would probably look quite hilarious :P. It might also be a good idea to get all his combatants some levels in spear wielding/harpooning. I think dealing with monsters utilizing as much range as possible is the smart and save move even if you would deal a lot more damage using a sword/axe or even dagger.

Great job with the Kraken fight, can’t wait to see what comes of it!

Red Bombadil

Yeah, I was building up to them exploiting critical hits like that once the arms weren’t a deadly threat, but I’m still trying to decide if I want an alchemist among the prisoners next chapter and things like kraken eyes sounded like cool ingredients, so i left it vague in the end.

Deinos

I'd have tried to swim up to an eye, then work my way through to the brain and use an explosive or equivalent.

Red Bombadil

I get it! Figuring out just this one monster strategy took me through several plans.

Red Bombadil

Glad you liked it! I definitely had to remind myself that Hali and Marcus were on board. It felt weird not having their reunion after being rescued, but doing that while a kraken was there didn’t seem to fit. (And having a kraken be to fit all too well, since the vampires had to be driven off somehow and it’s a bloody kraken in a sea story!)

Red Bombadil

Sure! Any idea for “ship-sized” traps? (Any ideas will be shamelessly pillaged and incorporated into the world, since I’ve struggled to come up with many things in this area.)

Young Youghurt

This is probably the best under water kraken fight I have ever read. Very cool. Though I am also excited about Dom meeting his gf and teacher. May you enjoy blessed holidays.

Jake

If the ship is powerful enough that it could drag the Kraken, they could have laid an area of traps and such in the sea and dragged it through perhaps?

Lorcogoth

I would gladly give some advise as to how fight sea-monsters, but honestly there is such a huge variance between different sea-monsters that it's hard to write down a concrete answer.
