What you say makes sense. Still, I don't see it as a "cash prize", just normal money he gets from his videos. Sometimes it's a lot, sometimes it's a little, but I don't see why he should react differently depending on how much money he gets. In all cases it is just reward for his work. I admit I miiight just be extra protective of the (often generous) people I care about though.

I don't know, I feel like hbomb wouldn't be doing something like this if he wasn't financially stable, and I think the recognition he got from his video speaks for itself, it doesn't need a cash prize stapled on it. And while Somerton deserves to pay for his crimes, a bunch of creators suing him would be extremely risky if not outright infeasible, not to mention the legal costs. I think the community solution to this problem is best, where Somerton is completely blacklisted from the platform. Maybe he deserves worse, but I think this victory is enough.

I still feel weird about you giving the money away. It is 100% your right, but to me your gift to these creators is proper recognition and proofs, which is more than enough. You did journalistic work. Journalists deserve to be paid. And if someone should pay the original creator, it should be Somerton, forced to do so by being sued by the creators helped with your massive amount of proofs. You did intense work, after years of slowing building up to that kind of content, you deserve that money. The journalists in Spotlight didn't give back their annual salaries to the victims, the information was what they give, same as you. Anyhow, I'm ranting, but I defend your right to be rewarded, which you might feel comfortable defending yourself.

I have the academic background and topic ideas to make well-researched and unique (enough) videos, but was a bit afraid of the editing and filming process. [I apologize for writing such a long comment. It always seems to happen when I write things, lol. Considering how many comments are here, I'm sure you probably won't see this, but here it is anyway.] Your last video broke the internet, but in a good way. It really got the conversation about plagiarism going by tons of content creators and individuals alike. Everyone was/is talking about it. Hell, even people who don't usually vibe with your content were blown away by how much work you put into it and started talking about it. Never believe you have no impact in this world, as that video proves otherwise (and obviously that live-stream you did). You are amazing and your work/passion is incredible and has importance. Keep it up, man! I hope you guys can find everyone affected, as I know there are more than who you initially found. I'm pretty sure all the non-highlighted spots that weren't his bullshit opinions were also stolen. From what I've seen, at least one of them was one of his own patrons, which is even more fucked up. I'd like to remind everyone that, no matter how smart/intelligent a person is, anyone can be conned. It's not the victims fault for falling for whatever it is. Hell, I've even fell victim to a few. Successful con-artists like Somerton know exactly how to persuade people, and his background being primarily in marketing made it that much easier. Anyone who has been fucked over by these people should try not to feel ashamed, as again, it's not their fault. It's OK to feel upset, but the blame lies solely on those who conned them. I really feel for all the people were betrayed and discouraged, but I think you showed them things to keep in mind when judging which video essayists are worthwhile, and which ones to avoid. It's really awesome that you threw a bunch of names of creators they/we can go support instead at the end. That was a big help, not only for them/us, but those creators as well.

I've put off doing Vampire for so long! I've been waiting until I need to make an easier video lol. It's a bit like Fallout 4, like, I know how that video would go already, so I put it off in favor of something more creatively challenging. I used to joke I'll make the Fallout 4 video once I'm all out of ideas, but I've somehow lasted long enough doing what I do that Fallout 4 itself has fallen into irrelevancy, and then BACK INTO relevance from the sheer time passed since its release and everything that happened to Bethesda afterwards. So it's become creatively challenging all over again! Tell your sister I'd love to do RWBY part 2, especially now I've done enough other videos first, so I'm not in danger of becoming "the rwby guy." It's just a question of figuring out when the right time is to make it. Do I wait for the show to end? Has it ended already and been effectively-cancelled, as some theorise? I'm sitting on it until I know what I should be doing. Sometimes videos tell you when they need to be made. Right now it's telling me to wait and see.
