New World - Real-Shrinking in the School Store (fixed)
🕑 Added 2019-07-29 05:09:39 +0000 UTCSo I just posted a pretty cool new world in the portal hub. A patron gave me a bunch of 3D-scans of real women. So I put them in a little convenient store.
Update: Near spawn, there's now 2 blue buttons (not 3). The first one will shrink you all the way down to less than an inch tall. It's a slow shrinking that takes about 3 minutes total. You can hit it again to pause at whatever size you want to be.
The second button turns on/off the colliders for the girls and the store. They're off when you spawn so you're not colliding with everything. But you'll want them on once you're small. I also fixed a collider glitch that was causing the ground to be all jumpy and jittery. Now it's nice and smooth to frolick on without that glitch.
I also put some cars for you to drive around when you're tiny, and some jetpacks too. Also, what's really cool about this world is that I figured out having a depth-of-field affect. So the focus will look a bit wonky when you spawn, but after you start shrinking, it will look more and more awesome. The affect is that you'll really FEEL a the sense of depth and scale with vast distances, since what's far from you is out of focus, and comes into focus when you get closer. It's like the depth of field of an insect, so it looks really cool, especially in VR.
Let me know what you think and if you want more worlds with this depth-of-field like effect.
Update: Fixed the DoF affect so it's not AS jarring when you spawn. Now you spawn at 2/3 size. But the DoF looks better the smaller you get. Thanks to a patron for catching this glaring wonkiness!

you're right, i'll probably avoid the DoF affect from now on. I really love it, but since it's a Post Processing Effect, I can't find any way to have it be toggleable. Hopefully I can go back into this world and take off the DoF and re-upload it, if the world hasn't been broken yet in Unity (tends to happen all the time) Thanks for the feedback! I agree.
I definitely prefer it without the DoF. You can hardly see anything and even the menu is super blury. Plus these models look really great and I'm kind of sad I can't see them very well at all. The world itself is one of your best. Hopefully you can add the ability to turn off the DoF on it as I'd love to see it a little better. The cars are great too, easy and fun to use.
