Shantae Animation Stuff
🕑 Added 2018-03-27 23:49:15 +0000 UTC I still get a few asks about the Shantae animation every now and then, so I'm gonna clarify a few things about it.The project is not canceled, it'll be done eventually, however it will not be anytime soon.
Forgetting the other animation project I've been working on, which while it's just as long is way simpler in shot composition, the Shantae animation is a grand total of 8 sex scenes and transition scenes between them. It's also a complicated matter of how to present it that I THINK I have figured out but am not 100% sure yet. (You may recall I posted I had an answer using flash recently, which is true. It'll depend on whether or not flash fucks with toon boom graphics.)
By comparison the Curly Brace animation I made was a single scene so, while it was sizeably long, it was way easier to proceed with. The rig used was a single angle. The Shantae one meanwhile has 2 unique rigs for each scene.
Basically it's literally well over 10x as much work as the Curly Brace hypno animation.
I cannot stress enough how complicated and large the Shantae project is. The reason it's on the backburner is because I literally was starting to come to hate it, so it was either keep working on it and then abandon it, or put it on hold and come back to it when I feel better and can work out a better plan.
Depending on how people feel about it, I may opt to cut the 'movie' theming and make it more like a series of animation cycles you can click through, using the arrow buttons to change scenes, maybe with just an intro scene. This isn't something I WANT to do, but eliminating the transition scenes would definitely cut down a lot of the work while preserving what people want to see. It'd also depend on flash properly rendering all of Toon Boom's graphics, which if I keep em simple in terms of order that SHOULD be possible.
Part of the reason I was able to move so quickly through it at first was because I was treating each sex scene as basically just a single gif loop, which for me makes it way more manageable. I may consider proceeding with that mindset again and resuming work on it, as I still scatter some NSFW gifs in my workflow for fun. (And, to be honest, regular NSFW gifs are way more potent for a patreon page than a full length animation. I want to do both but gifs are stupidly effective.)
It'd also depend on what people want to see. Would you rather it be a collection of hentai loops and get it sooner, or would you rather it be two whole animated films (futa version and non-futa), but take like 2-3 additional months to release?

I will keep waiting, perfection cant be rushed and doing something you like but dont feeling its going well will have a bad ending, take your time

Thing is, large scope projects can be solo-managed if you keep them in mind before you start. I knew the complexity before going in--keep in mind I've made a 14 minute film before, and while it was in a team I still pulled a majority of the animation work. The issue is more while I understand what it means for me and my release window, followers and patrons might not. Someone had removed their pledge today citing the reason they left was due to no progress on the Shantae animation. I'd rather be as clear as possible on my workflow / priorities / scope to prevent those concerns in the future so peoples' expectations stay grounded and consistent with my plans. (And also so they can help me keep my plans in line, though I wish people would speak up or talk to me before anything if they don't like what's going on.) As mentioned there's also the conflict of "Do I even bother with long-form content, or do I follow suit what other animators like TwistedGrim, Diives, Alfa, etc. all do and prioritize making porn gifs?"

As someone who enjoys your work and respects your dedication to your craft, I also think you're getting WAY too ambitious with this. I personally don't think we need transitions between scenes and two full versions of what basically amounts to an animated short film for a hentai animation. I think that, in your effort to do as much as possible to make something that appeals to you, you're losing focus on big picture stuff and putting too much pressure on yourself as just one guy. I'm perfectly fine with limiting the scope of the Shantae project to cut back on the workload and I think a lot of other people would be too.
