My bet* is that either she was never pregnant, and it was just a desperate moment of panic for an excuse, or she miscarried and doesn't know how to approach it. I lean more towards the lying.

Oh, oh she only had one baby ever... Oh my my heart. I'm glad for Sturgeon's actions... Even if it meant sacrifices. Even if she never came to know. Baby is out there. ;-; (oh god I hope, at least, that the baby made it through life.)
