Chapter 21 The Birth of Nightwing
🕑 Added 2025-10-12 11:31:53 +0000 UTC"Where's the car?"
"Exploded."
Inside the two-door supercar, Connors said awkwardly in the face of Shayna's doubtful eyes.
"It seems that you, like those Avengers, regularly destroy your own vehicles," Shayna said with a sudden realization. Soon though, she didn't continue with the topic. A mere muscle car was nothing to a big star like her.
At this time, looking at the interior of the supercar, she seemed to be very knowledgeable. She reached out and performed a series of operations on the buttons, and at the same time said, "You know, the shock absorption on this car is fantastic."
After that, the window glass became completely opaque to the outside. With nearly an hour to go before the circus show, soon, in the underground parking lot, the logoless luxury car began to shake slightly and regularly.
"Applause for the upcoming exciting performance! Performing on stage is the owner and operator of the world-famous Grayson Circus—"
"The Flying Graysons!"
Shayna's concert stage had been remodeled and completely transformed into the appearance of a circus stage. As the spotlight lit up, two vigorous figures fell from the heights with the help of ropes, staging one breathtaking performance after another.
With the spotlight always focused on the Flying Graysons, no one noticed that below the stage, seeds had sprouted, grown, and were continuing to grow. The changes in these plants were naturally related to Connors. He was sitting in the audience below the stage with Shayna, unnoticed by anyone.
The two Graysons flying on the stage were about to start their formal performance after a series of warm-ups, and their son, "Dick Grayson," was also coming on stage.
Right at the moment Dick Grayson was about to fasten his ropes, as his parents danced in the air, an unheard tearing sound echoed through the stadium. A clear inspection in front of the lampstand confirmed that the firm aerial rope had broken. The Graysons, who were in the air, fell downwards on the spot.
They were ten meters above the ground. If they fell, there was only one ending: death.
"No—!" Dick, who was only eight years old, Grayson exclaimed, screaming.
At this time, countless spectators in the stadium also let out different exclamations. Gotham City's famous "Flying Grayson" family had always been famous for their gorgeous performances and had never had any safety accidents. But at this moment, it had happened.
Connors sat next to Shayna and kept his eyes focused on the performance. The moment he saw the Graysons fall, a large number of plants spread wildly, springing out from under the stage and quickly forming a large net to catch them.
But Connors had only 1% of the "Green of All Things." He could control plant growth, but he could not completely ignore common sense like Poison Ivy. In other words, no matter what the plants controlled by Connors grew into, their essence was still a relatively fragile existence. Knowing this, he had specially sprinkled a large amount of seeds around the stage, wanting to achieve a qualitative change with a quantitative change.
But the accident soon occurred. With the Graysons' bodies still in the air and not yet fallen to the great web of plants, the broken rope, affected by the bouncy force, slashed rapidly through the great web from an eerie angle.
CRACK!
Its speed was such that the end of the rope even emitted a whip-like crack. Connors's big net of plants also had a big hole torn through the middle because of this.
Crap! Connors's heart tightened. So it's impossible to save the couple, to change the fate of the family?
Even though he was mentally prepared in advance, at this moment, he could not help but sigh as he watched the two people follow the trajectory of their destiny, unable to be saved by him.
There were two loud thuds. The Graysons died on the spot, and the spectators sitting in the front row were splashed with blood.
Screaming, vomiting, fleeing. There was instant chaos in the stadium. Only Dick Grayson stood high on the platform with a dull look on his face, looking at the two corpses below, before rushing down the steps frantically. The bodies that others feared were his parents, and he threw himself directly on them, desperately trying to awaken the two who were now sleeping forever.
"It seems that if you want to change this established history, you need stronger strength," Connors said to himself with some regret.
Fortunately, he soon adjusted his mentality and walked step by step from the audience to Dick Grayson's side. Without waiting for him to speak, a staff member who had hurried in from the background handed him a phone.
"Sir, your call. Bruce Wayne is calling."
At the other end of the phone, Batman was still lying on the operating table, but there was a monitor in front of him. It was originally used for the concert, but now it was used for surveillance in the stadium.
"I've seen what's going on," Bruce Wayne said from the other end of the phone. "Please bring him to me. I want to adopt him."

Inside Wayne Manor, Connors stared at Mr. Wayne, who was standing on the floor as if nothing was wrong. This atmosphere of silence didn't match Connors's personality, so he proactively broke it.
"Aren't you broken?"
Bruce Wayne looked at Connors, expressionless. "Do you really want to see me lying dying on a hospital bed?"
Connors didn't answer. He was very curious about how Batman, who was still undergoing surgery in the morning, could stand in front of him in half a day. Seeing that Batman refused to say anything, he simply walked around behind Bruce Wayne and saw an exoskeleton-like bracket supporting him. Judging by the number on the stand, this was obviously not the first pair. It was maybe something Batman had made in advance to cope with this exact situation where his bones were broken.
Bruce Wayne turned around, unwilling to let Connors keep staring at his back. "I looked at the surveillance inside the stadium. You sowed seeds around the stage before the show even started, seemingly anticipating the Graysons' deaths in advance."
This could not be hidden from him, and Connors did not want to hide it. He nodded directly and admitted it.
"So, even if I don't want to believe what you said before leaving in the morning, I have to believe it at this time…"
Connors continued to nod, and then he saw Bruce Wayne take a step back. Immediately, there was a cacophony of mechanical sounds in the room, and hundreds of guns of various shapes pointed at Connors from all angles.
"To convince me of the lie of the destruction of the world, you go and kill other innocent people, right?"
"You seem to have a strong sense of anti-reconnaissance. You even performed a full set of acting, creating a scene of trying hard to save them but failing."
"Surrender without a fight, Mr. Connors." Bruce Wayne didn't know from where a rocket launcher came out. "You may be able to dodge ordinary bullets, but how do you dodge large-scale damage in such a closed room?"
Being pointed at by so many guns—at least hundreds of them at the same time—even if Connors had a master-level trick, he couldn't help but feel his scalp go numb.
"As expected of a master, but…" Connors, as if anticipating such a thing, laughed. Halfway through, he pulled out a Batarang from his pocket that was flashing with a red light.
