Day 9 of asking Wendigoon to draw me with a cookie. Vampires mmmm. Anyways. The package looked plain. simple brown wrapping paper. What really caught my eye was the man dropping it off. It was the same guy who stepped in the rice. I remembered his pristine suit from the day before. Now it looked looser on him somehow. He ran off after dropping the package off. I ended up taking a new route to work for a few days because of some road construction going on. Almost forgetting about the man, until I passed by the house again. Now a small pile of packages were sitting in front of the door. All of them the exact same size using the exact same brown paper. I decided to try and leave a little earlier the next day to see if I could see him dropping the package off. It took a few days but I finally saw him again. He was wearing the same suit. Now dirty and ragged. He knelled in front of the house crying. Praying I think. I was a little too far to hear exactly what he was saying. The front door of the house opened. It looked like we wanted to run. Crying and praying even harder as the door opened wider. It was too dark inside the house for me to see anything. But he could see it. He stopped praying when the door fully opened. A face emerged from the darkness. It was gray, shriveled and resembled an old woman. But the face appeared near the top of the doorframe. She would have to be over 6ft for her face to be that high. The face looked uncaring, but as she stared down at the man. I could see her face slowly twist into a frown. She opened her mouth and a tongue emerged, but the tip of it was glowing, it looked like lightbulb. She slowly stepped back into the darkness, her face disappearing but the light remained in the same place. Her tongue streaming further into the darkness. The man stood and approached the light. He seemed calm as he approached it. When he finally reached the doorway, his hand moved to touch it. But all at once something yanked him into the darkness. Like a puppet being pulled by his strings. The door abruptly shut behind him.

Day 7 of asking Wendigoon to draw me with a cookie. Also vampires are cool. Anyways. The rice finally finished circling the entire house. I took pics of it, and showed it to my coworker. They didn’t know anything about the house or its residents, and thought it was only odd. But something feels wrong about it. Like aren’t rice circle meant to keep stuff out. I make a note now to cross the street before I reach that house. The house itself is pretty normal. It looks a little too nice. Almost like a staged home, or like someone repaints it every week. There are two other things that are weird about the house. First, the front door is a dark red color but the frame is neon yellow. The door itself looks normal. It’s just the colors are jarring compared to the rest of the grey house. Secondly, there is one window on the 2nd floor that has been complety covered up by newspaper in the inside. I only noticed because the cover of the newspaper is a picture of Shaq. Besides for that the house looks normal. Two stories. Can’t get a good look at the backyard because the fence is to high. I did see someone step in the rice circle. It looked like it was by accident. The guy didn’t even notice. Just kept walking down the street. And the next morning the circle was fixed. But there was a package on their front step.

She doesn't turn into a vampire after getting bit because the old man vampire in the caves said she had to drink vampire blood as well in order to turn into one. I don't know why the cave worker woke up and got out of the cave, though, following that logic. It was never stated, so maybe im pulling at straws, but if I was that old vampire down there I'd forcefully make him drink my blood so I could potentially have a helping hand lead me out of there. It was never stated by the author though so thats just my assumption

It’s very easy to get lost or find new routes. Espically if you’re walking like me. I didn’t notice the rice at first, until I almost stepped in it. A small pile in the middle of the sidewalk. I ignored it. Assuming someone just spilled something. The next day when I passed the house I realized the pile was bigger. Over the next few days the pile grew and began to form a line down the street. I couldn’t understand why someone would do this, and why so slowly? Eventually the rice began to crawl its away around the house. I finally realized the rice was forming a circle around this normal suburban house.

Loved this episode! I found it to be an engaging listen even despite how silly the story felt at times. The main premise was very compelling and I liked how it slowly started to reveal its hand (even if the reveals were more lackluster than the idea of said reveals themselves), but I loved the banter this episode, it was just top tier. It's so frustrating listening to this podcast sometimes because these two have literally no reading comprehension. Around the hour and a half mark was especially irritating. I'm honestly getting tired of having to listen to one or both of them spend three minutes talking about the salt thing and just not understanding they want the ground dry to sleep in or Wendigoon spending a minute and a half losing his mind because our main character left a dead guy hanging in the tub because Wendigoon didn't realize he was dead even though he literally read the words "there was a dead man hanging in the tub" three seconds prior. Like I love the show but it really does piss me off sometimes and it kinda pulls me out of the story. Also just wanted to mention the bill henley thing, it was really stupid how neither of them realized he was dead and was killed in the motel bathroom, and Wendigoon even sort of called that but nope. He's an idiot and as soon as he read there was a dead guy in the shower he jumps to "oh that's bill henley and he's still alive and our main character basically killed him, the already dead guy thats not even bill fucking henley"

I'm at the climax, and I gotta say -- story started strong, but it slowly went downhill. I disliked the protagonist more as the story unfolded, from her fumbling over statements to her very questionable actions. Good mystery with some nice twists, but I don't feel invested in any of these characters.

21:47 just an anecdote; smoke from a fire is a strong scent. I once had to clean a kitchen that HAD been white, but was completely black with soot. Thing is, you couldn't even smell that soot. Why? Because the overwhelming odor of cat urine that permeated that house was enough to burn the hairs in your nose. It was so bad you could smell it outside the closed door on their stoop.

As far as vampire stories go, "The Buffalo Hunter Hunter" by Stphen Graham Jones is a good one. Set in 1912 Montana with parts taking place in 1860's Montana, the view on the general vampire mythos from the view of a Blackfoot Indian and an older Lutheran pastor is very engaging.
