This is when they ask I’ll give my more conclusive thoughts at the end. Right now. I think Windy is a an extremely beautiful woman that is also extremely skinny. Her stunning face is covered by a flesh like mask (similar to the rest of her body skinny and scarred and wrinkled) in order to relate to the characters mom’s sickness. She’s an old and powerful entity than can do as she pleases to a degree. Idk how to describe it but she’s got unmatched aura lol.

I'm only at the 42 minute mark right now, so I don't know how this story will play out & change how I picture things, but I'm 100% envisioning Windy as Aisling from the Secret of Kells crossed with a neolithic bog body. Not sure yet if this she's an actual animated human corpse or a faerie, but to me she has the vibes of Aisling and the looks of the Clonycavan man. My current theory is she's a little of both – maybe she was a human thousands of years ago, was murdered or executed or killed as a sacrifice and left in the earth, and somehow Remained as something else entirely for all this time. I don't know if she's a symbol of death so much as she's a guard against abusive/violent family relationships (at least, that's my current read of the "monster" that killed her brothers – perhaps they killed each other as hate chewed them up? I don't think it's a coincidence that she showed up after the narrator gave in to rage & hate and hit his own brother. Family violence (that she personified as a monster) could've also been what killed her). Or maybe the fellas are right and she's just death 😂 Regardless of how it plays out, I would be REALLY surprised if the author hadn't seen/used the Secret of Kells as a morsel of inspiration for this story – LOTS of similarities to Aisling & Brendan when it comes to Windy & the narrator interacting w one another so far

this is one of the only stories that almost drove me to tears. it’s a super relatable feeling for me and i’m sure many others to be in a state where your fears, anxieties and insecurities coalesce into an overwhelming hate where you’re doomed to just push away everyone you love and be painfully aware of what you’re doing the whole time. That feeling of wanting to be the one so badly, but ultimately being forced to come to grip with the reality that you’re merely a stepping stone in the lives of other people. That mixed with the very real events that are happening to the protagonist and the fact that he still made the choice that he did at the end…..goddamn man. i’m sad now.

I have a story request and I must scream: Would be cool to watch you guys read through a collection of classics from the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books. There's three volumes so lots of good ones to pick from. They're also banned in a lot of schools now, thankfully not until after I graduated because I loved them and they scared the hell out of me, especially Harold the Scarecrow. It would be an awesome grab bag episode, not to mention the artwork by Stephen Gammell is excellent nightmare fuel. Plus: since it was a compilation of stories and folk tales, Alvin Schwartz, the author, did footnotes at the end of the books detailing some of the origins and variations of the stories, etc.

And that's why the people thought she was crazy, and never saw her "father" as something evil. She couldn't comprehend or accept death, and he was a monster to her. As someone who was a teenage carer to my dying mother, this story was just devastating but also so beautiful. I definitely agree with Hunter that it's a story about coming to terms with death and loss, and that Windy is a personification of that. The lines about how once his mother and brother have died, "he will be the only one to remember them, and then once he passes, nobody will" were just gut-wrenching to hear. That thought was something I struggled with a lot right after my mum's passing, and I still do from time to time. The idea of someone you love so dearly eventually being lost to time is such a harrowing thought, and the author portrayed those feelings of desperation and fear so well. This is definitely one of my favourite stories to be covered on the podcast so far, and I'm glad the guys loved it and were moved by it too.

When Windy was telling the protagonist about her father, canyon deepened his voice and made it gravely but I think it would have been more powerful if he'd kept the voice he gave Windy up to that point. Giving her a "monster-y" voice is too on the nose (for my taste, at least) and kind of cheapened it. He does it with other characters that start off a protagonist and then become antagonistic, and I kinda wish he would just keep the performance consistent.

I agree! I don't think MC got the "bad parts" at all. He gets to grow up and remember - while also processing the feelings he had as a little boy. It wasn't anger toward his mother and brother. Wendigoon's room is so empty and dark in the beginning. And zero decorations, it's really spooky for the creepcast. I picture Windy as those Tim Burton skeletons but stretched out and with gold eyes and no stripes or costumes and a little bit of paper like skin but cracked.

[Spoiler thoughts] + I think Wendi's dad was just a sick, evil, corrupt man in power. I don't think he was actually cursed in the literal sense. It was Wendi's hatred of him that turned her into a monster. + The forest represented death and being forgotten, which Wendi hated, so she associates it with her father. She can't accept that her idea of vengeance - of inflicting the same kind of pain she and her brother went through - is no longer possible. She twists her narrative so she can have something to take out all her anger on. + I love that you can't tell if any of this is real or just a child's way of coping with everything he feels. And, in a way, the protagonist got a happy ending because he didn't turn out like Wendi. He remembers just as Wendi does, but it doesn't eat him up.

The part in that story where the mother came home and got sick really hit me. I had a very similar experience myself but with my husband. He has stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. During that time, I had recently given birth to a baby that they said was not supposed to be medically possible given the chemo and treatments my husband’s body had to endure—a baby boy that I promptly named after my husband, George. Almost 2 months after we had returned home with our new son is when it happened. We were laying in our bed, I was watching TV waiting to hear the baby in the room next door cry out for a feeding as my husband slept next to me. Everything was perfect, until it wasn’t. Suddenly he started coughing in his sleep, eventually the coughing was enough to wake himself up, then it was bad enough to make him sit up to try to make the coughing stop, and then he bolted to the bathroom still coughing violently into our sink. When I followed him into the bathroom I saw my giant of a husband (standing at 6’5) struggling to breathe right. That’s when I realized why he was weak and crookedly standing over our bathroom sink. When I looked to see what he had been desperately coughing and spitting into the sink, there was bright red splatters of blood dripping down the white porcelain. He noticed my realization of his current situation and I could tell it only made him more upset. But immediately I told him I was going to call an ambulance, to which he got even more emotional, begging me not to because we could not afford the medical bills that would come from it along with it, especially as two new young parents. I am well aware that not paying any kind of bill is inherently bad, but in that moment I thought f*ck those bills and dialed 911 anyway—he was too weak to try to stop me or speak out in protest, but I could tell that him hearing me make the call broke him even more. Now keep in mind that this was peek Covid-19 times, so the 911 operator had advised me that once the ambulance arrived I should please stand away from it and listen to all orders given by the paramedics when they arrived. They eventually got to our home, I picked up our sleeping son and carried him out front with us so that we could say our goodbyes together. This moment hit us both very hard given all of the circumstances and our current reality. My husband wrapped his enormous arms around the both of us as we stood there crying together, and without even using any words, I could hear him endlessly apologizing to both of us and feel the weight of his guilt—guilty because he wouldn’t be there to help me during the late nights with our new son, and even more guilty that he was sick with something that he didn’t even ask for. The paramedics had eventually asked my husband to get onto their ambulance, reminding me not to follow him. The moment he kissed us both and unwrapped us from his arms, the weight of everything came crashing down on me. I started crying even harder, hugging our baby and waving goodbye, watching him walk away, unsure when I would see him again, or how. I was a first time mother that had suddenly been left in a pandemic ridden world to face motherhood all alone without my best friend by my side. When the flashing lights of the ambulance faded away in the distance, I walked back inside of our home. The only thing I could hear besides the cooing of my son was the echo of the TV from our bedroom. I could feel the wiggling of my son in my arms—the only other person that was now left at home with me. Before that night I had truly never felt so hopeless or alone, and I will never forget it. The resentment I have for the American healthcare system and the powers that may be still exist ferociously in my heart, and for a good goddamned reason. *BUT BACK TO THIS WEEKS STORY!* I love this author’s writing so much, again, so many things she wrote in this story were relatable to me. Great choice guys. Everyone/anyone who has read this, stay creepy out there and stay safe!🖤

Got to the end section 2:33:01 and I half disagree with the goons conclusion. I think the main character is disallowed from this infinite life of simple pleasures because he would use the time to forget. Forget his fear for his brother, his mother, his life. Now that could simply be mad ramblings from Wendy (the one who says that the MC wants to forget in the first place). But I just wanted to point that out. As for how remembering would be better in this situation, I think it works if you look at the story in a more metaphorical sense; but I do not currently have the brain power to comprehend that line of reasoning. But for SURE a 9/10 story.

I think Wendigoon might be thinking of "Bridge to Terabithia." Children's book about a kid who's struggling in his home and personal life, meets a girl and the two invent a fantasy to live in for a while before the boy is forced to confront reality again due to a tragedy. I'm purposely being vague to avoid spoiling it for anyone who hasn't read it or seen the movie, but it was a good book. At least I remember liking it as a kid lol Edit: Nevermind. He got it.
