The imagery of the painting and the style of the story reminds me of a story I read on NoSleep once. I can't find it now, but the protagonist discovers a boarded up window in his flat that shouldn't lead to the outside. One day he prys it open to see what's behind it and finds a courtyard in another world where time moves differently and weird stuff happens. He gets his university classmates/friends in on exploring it. It was really good, and at the time reminded me a little of House of Leaves or the Left Right Game. I wish I could find it, I'd love to hear you guys read it. If anyone else knows what I'm talking about and can find the name of it, please let me know! I'd love to read it again as well.

Funny, I haven't seen the movie but I thought the book was just OK. And then the second book was an incredibly frustrating mass of nothing happening with characters refusing to communicate and ensuring that nothing actually happens. Seriously, the characters were SO frustrating and actively working against themselves. The ending is the only time something actually happens, and I still thought it was stupid. I didn't even read the third book, just looked at a summary. The word salad might have been interesting if it actually held any meaning to the story, but surely none I could discern.

When I was younger my stepdads friend died in hospital he was also a hoarder and we were asked to clean out his house he hoarded nascar collectibles the little toy cars to signed posters and trophy replicas he had like the free pens and matches memorabilia they’d hand out at the races and it wasn’t confined to one room his whole single story house was nascar boxes in his bathroom shower boxes on his kitchen counter his bed was squared off with boxes all the way to the ceiling they covered his windows I wouldn’t say it was dirty like he started going to the bathroom in bags just unkept dusty and cobwebs at one point I heard a nascar like running in the house I’d been to a race before and they’re loud asf my family said it was probably just a toy but it was to loud to be a toy sounded like it was revving right on the hall way
