Fear not, easily panicked figment of my imagination! For you see...
I am losing my job.
So, 2020 was kind of a wild ride, right? And this year has already been coming on pretty strong. Well, it's got one last shot on me. The hospital that I work at is declaring bankruptcy, and my last day of work will be on the 20th of February. This is... kind of weird for me personally. It's like a strange silver lining.
You guys remember when I was homeless for two weeks in November 2019 and I had to panic-buy a house in a hurry because it's cheaper than renting here? My hospital used to give us stocks instead of some benefits. Well, I cashed in those stocks, the settlement I got for a wrongful eviction, and my savings for the down payment back in 2019... and then 2020 made the stocks worthless, and then 2021 made them go poof.
So, hooray for temporary homelessness?
I'm not sure if I'm in shock. I'm just kind of looking at the email I was sent and squinting at it like, "Oh, so that's the difficulty modifier we're adding onto this year. Cool. I hope there's an achievement for it."
Don't worry about me.
I work in the medical field, so I'll be able to find a job when everything calms down. Right now, hospitals everywhere are hiring and firing like there's no tomorrow. If you're wondering why, it's because no one is coming into the hospital for procedures until it's "necessary." So, people are waiting and then coming in waves instead of regularly, and so staff is only needed in waves. It's a bit of an oversimplification, but basically that kind of thing.
I'm honestly looking forward to working on the game full time. It's been a dream of mine for a while, and with unemployment coming in, I should be able to do it for two or three months while I'm looking for a new job. It would also be nice to work on Superheroes Suck during my "peak" hours. Right now, I'm squeezing in five hours before bed or five hours before work, and by the weekend I'm just a bag of meat and red bull. That's what 70 hours a week will do to you.
With my current job, I'm putting in around 30 hours each week into the game (not counting animation time). Now on unemployment, I'm thinking about doing 40-45 hours a week, and spending the rest of the time job hunting. I should be able to do all of Version 0.75 as full time. I wonder what that will look like.
So... mixed news, I guess? Good for the game, kind of average for myself. We'll see how it works out.

Good gods Solace! Keep marching along. I'm glad this isn't pulling the rug out from under you but I still hope life stops dealing you a rough hand. Keep at it and for what it's worth, I'm here for ya.

Geez, I know people have it tough during the pandemic, but it's worse when it's people you know of... I'm glad you are able to see the silver lining here and I hope that maybe the added activity in game development will increase your fame and then Patreon subscriptions. Don't lose your sanity!
