Mononoke is an iOS app that seems like a software Lyra 8 to me. Might be worth a look.

Unfortunately I wouldn't know how to take it apart. But the basics is that every electric motor has two cables +V and Ground (-V), generally it's red and black. To make a motor go in reverse you would just have to change the electric motor's polarity. Depending on electronics, it should be as simple as interchanging the motor's power supply cable pairs.
