I wouldn't draw an Adoptable ever again anyway. The characters I'm auctioning have only been drawn once and I don't intend to draw them again unless commissioned by the owner.

True, but if I were to adopt one of those OC's, wouldn't that mean you wouldn't be drawing them again? (unless otherwise commissioned to do so) And if someone really likes that OC, wouldn't they want to NOT adopt it so the artist would keep drawing it? And if it does support the author, there's other ways to do that, like this patreon thing. Or commissions... for the character you like, at that.

Sorta but there probably isn't any legality tied to it.

Well, yeah. You can draw any character you want but adopting the character transfers ownership.

I still don't understand the "buying it" thing. If you wanted to draw it, wouldn't you just do that?

It's essentially buying an OC. If you see a character you like and you happen to draw or commisssion art, you can adopt a character to use as your own forever.
