Dr. Jonathan Crane, MD - Entry 045
🕑 Added 2017-11-05 20:00:00 +0000 UTC CRANE: ENTRY 045EDWARD: No, it’s not a complaint, or an excuse, but it’s true regardless; society has always demanded more from me.
CRANE: Because of your intelligence.
EDWARD: Absolutely – More is asked of people with higher IQs.
JOKER: Ha!
HARVEY: Bullshit.
CRANE: Harvey, you disagree?
HARVEY: ‘Course we do. Higher intelligence doesn’t mean jack shit. Society only cares about how many hours it can get outta you in a day. You need drive, vigor, moxie.
EDWARD: Oh please.
OSWALD: I’m more inclined to agree with Edward here, but I believe his wording to be slightly… erroneous.
CRANE: How so?
OSWALD: I don’t believe more is asked of those with greater intelligence, but more is certainly expected. I recall, back in my younger days, being told by my headmaster that I “of all people should know better” than this or that. There was a greater look of disappointment if I were to falter in my studies.
EDWARD: It’s the belief that because you have a greater capacity for knowledge, you should somehow already arrive pre-taught. Thus, more is expected.
OSWALD: Precisely.
CRANE: People mistaking intelligence and wisdom.
EDWARD: Yes.
OSWALD: Yes.
HARVEY: Beh.
CRANE: Hmm. Joker, what do you think?
(JOKER blows a raspberry. HARLEY laughs.)
CRANE: Fair enough. Jervis, you’ve been quiet.
JERVIS: I’ve nothing to say.
EDWARD: There’s a first.
CRANE: Ed. (To JERVIS) If you don’t want to participate, you don’t have to – this really was just a test to see if group therapy could be an option in future.
JERVIS: Too many thinks to think. Nothing can be said. Not for ears here to hear.
CRANE: Alright – Harley. Did you ever find that –
BOLTON: Lights out in ten minutes, Doc. I don’t want – what the fuck’s goin’ on in here?
CRANE: Group therapy session. Arkham approved.
BOLTON: Where’s the posted guard?
CRANE: These sessions are confidential, I told him to take a walk.
BOLTON: You t— hrngh…. Alright, you listen to me, Doc. You wanna play doctor, you go right ahead. But security is MY department. YOU don’t get to tell MY MEN where they should be. Got it?
CRANE: I have everything in control.
BOLTON: That’s NOT the point. You are overstepping you authority!
CRANE: Oh blow it out y’ass.
BOLTON: You know, I’ve half a mind to –
EDWARD: That’s being generous.
(Group laugh)
BOLTON: That’s it! One more word outta line and I’m gonna… gonna…
CRANE: What, cry again? Like you did in Valentino’s basement?
JOKER: He didn’t.
CRANE: Oh he did. Like a baby.
HARVEY: Heh, that’d be somethin’ to see.
CRANE: It was, I assure you. So tell me, Crybaby Bolton. What are you gonna… gonna do?
(JOKER and HARVEY laugh. OSWALD chuckles. HARLEY, JERVIS and EDWARD say nothing.)
(BOLTON laughs.)
BOLTON: Okay. Okay.
(BOLTON leaves.)
EDWARD: Not the reaction I was expecting.
(HARLEY hums in agreement.)
CRANE: Doesn’t matter none. Important thing is he’s gone. Hmm, though he wasn’t wrong – lights out in about five minutes. We’ll reconvene tomorrow then. Night everyone.
EDWARD: Heading to your office?
CRANE: No, records. Why?
EDWARD: No reason – we can talk later.
