Xiao Qun proudly stepped onto the barren ground, striding confidently toward Ji Yan's wooden cabin. However, after just a few steps, her expression changed dramatically. She felt a sharp, stabbing sensation under her feet, as if countless needles were trying to pierce through her soles and into her body.
Her face turned pale. As a cultivator, she immediately recognized what this was—sword intent!
The ground beneath her was filled with an overwhelming sword intent, which relentlessly stabbed at her feet like needles. Xiao Qun quickly realized that she had been tricked. All the flattery, the humble demeanor, and the fear of Nascent Soul stage experts were all fake. Everything had been an act by Lu Shaoqing. He had lured her here to make her suffer and to humiliate her.
The sword intent underfoot was like a lurking beast, watching her with menacing eyes, waiting for the right moment to deliver a fatal strike. It was also like a venomous snake, sizing up Xiao Qun as its prey, flicking its tongue ominously. The chilling killing intent paralyzed her; she couldn’t move forward, nor could she retreat. She stood frozen, trembling with fear. Xiao Qun had a sense that if she made even the slightest movement, she would be utterly destroyed.
The power of Ji Yan’s sword intent was terrifying. Even those at the same cultivation level would struggle to withstand it, let alone a mere Foundation Establishment cultivator like her. Xiao Qun was so frightened that she nearly lost control of her bladder.
"Big sister, what's wrong?"
"Sister, are you okay?"
The people accompanying Xiao Qun noticed something was wrong and began shouting anxiously.
Lu Shaoqing chimed in, "Maybe she's just too excited? Hey, you guys should go in and support her. If she falls down and makes a fool of herself in front of Senior Brother, you'll all get blamed."
He wore the mask of a helpful friend, urging them to act. Xiao Qun's companions thought he might be right. Knowing their big sister’s temper, they quickly rushed forward.
Xiao Qun saw them approaching and hurriedly shouted, "No, don't—"
But it was too late. As soon as they stepped onto the ground, they too felt the stabbing sensation beneath their feet and were locked in place by the sinister sword intent. They sensed the danger immediately and instinctively tried to channel their spiritual energy to resist it.
This was like poking a hornet's nest. The sword intent surged out, like a swarm of angry bees, launching a vicious attack on them. The sword intent was so fierce and brutal that it seemed to want to tear them to pieces.
"Ah!" Xiao Qun and her companions screamed as they desperately tried to defend themselves. Countless magical treasures and talismans were thrown out in a panic. But even the sturdiest of treasures and the most powerful talismans could only slow down the sword intent for a moment before being shredded to pieces.
Lu Shaoqing, standing outside, was watching with pained expressions. "Damn, don’t use those treasures! Those are mine! Stop wasting them!"
Seeing his treasured items being destroyed, he shouted in frustration, "You're all a bunch of wastrels! Stop using my stuff!"
Xiao Yi stood beside him, her eyes wide in astonishment. But as she saw Lu Shaoqing’s pained expression, she began to understand what was happening. She was overjoyed. Her second senior brother was not what she had thought after all.
"Second Senior Brother, did you bring them here on purpose?" she asked, her voice filled with admiration.
"Otherwise, what do you think?" Lu Shaoqing replied. "Did you really believe I was afraid of her?"
Xiao Yi blushed, realizing she had indeed suspected that. Lu Shaoqing playfully knocked her on the head. "How could you doubt your Second Senior Brother like that? You deserve a beating!"
Xiao Yi clutched her head, but she was smiling happily. "Second Senior Brother, I was wrong."
"Next time, if you doubt me again, I'll deal with you properly," Lu Shaoqing warned, though his tone was light.
Xiao Yi quickly reassured him, "There won’t be a next time. I’ll never doubt you again. Second Senior Brother, you're amazing to have thought of this!"
Lu Shaoqing nodded, satisfied. "They were getting too arrogant. They needed to be taught a lesson. Do you want to take advantage of the situation and finish them off?"
His tone turned dark as he asked, "If you want, you can strike now."
Xiao Qun and her companions were now fully occupied by the sword intent, struggling to survive. A simple move from Xiao Yi could end their lives.
But Xiao Yi was startled and quickly shook her head. "No, Second Senior Brother, let’s not go that far."
She disliked Xiao Qun, but their conflict wasn’t serious enough to justify killing her own cousin.
Lu Shaoqing frowned, clearly disappointed. "But a small grudge can grow. After today, she'll hate you even more. It’s better to just kill her and be done with it."
Xiao Yi looked at him helplessly. "Second Senior Brother, this whole situation was caused by you leading them here."
Lu Shaoqing feigned a hurt expression. "What? Are you blaming me now? That’s so disappointing. I was helping you, and now you blame me?"
"Are you a saint or something? If you are, I’ll smack you!" He continued to joke, though the term "saint" was unfamiliar to Xiao Yi.
"You’re the saint," Xiao Yi retorted playfully. "But she’s still my cousin. I can’t kill her."
Lu Shaoqing shook his head, disappointed. "Women are too soft-hearted. Someday, she’ll come back to kill you, mark my words. If your family ever faces a crisis, she'll be the first to betray you."
Xiao Yi refused to believe it. "It’s not that serious. This is just a small conflict between juniors."
"Second Senior Brother, please let her go," she pleaded.
Lu Shaoqing shrugged. "I can’t. This is your Senior Brother Ji Yan's sword intent, not mine."
"Besides, why should I save them?"
Xiao Yi tugged on his arm, pleading, "Second Senior Brother, please. I know you can do it. Please save them."
She didn’t want her cousin and the others to die here, nor did she want to bring trouble to her sect.
"Plus, if something happens to them, it’ll cause problems for Master and for you, too," she added.
Lu Shaoqing sighed, "Alright, fine."
He formed a sword gesture with his fingers and sent a streak of sword energy into the ground. However, instead of calming Ji Yan’s sword intent, it was like pouring water into a boiling pot—it caused an explosive reaction. The sword intent became even more violent, launching an even fiercer attack on Xiao Qun and her companions.
In just a few breaths, they were already covered in wounds, their situation growing increasingly dire.
Lu Shaoqing feigned surprise. "Oops, I made a mistake!"
Xiao Yi glared at him. "Second Senior Brother, you did that on purpose!"
Lu Shaoqing looked sincerely at her. "No, I really messed up by accident."
"What should we do now?" Xiao Yi asked, her worry growing as she watched Xiao Qun and the others barely hanging on.
Lu Shaoqing spread his hands, feigning helplessness. "There’s nothing we can do. They’re as good as dead."
"Second Senior Brother, you’re not really planning to let them die here, are you?" Xiao Yi asked, her suspicion rising.
Lu Shaoqing shook his head. "Of course not. I’d never do something like that. But there’s nothing I can do now."
Just as he finished speaking, the door of the wooden cabin opened, and Ji Yan stepped out.
