Xiao Qun was deeply dissatisfied, her eyes filled with resentment.
"Hmph, just because Xiao Yi is his niece, she got in through the back door and became a direct disciple of Tianyu Peak, becoming Senior Brother Ji Yan's junior sister. That spot was supposed to be mine."
"Now that we're here, they won't even let me see Senior Brother Ji Yan. How infuriating!"
Xiao Qun watched Xiao Chuang walk away, feeling wronged, but there was nothing she could do. Xiao Chuang was a powerful cultivator in the Nascent Soul stage and the master of Chiyue Peak in the Lingxiao Sect. He held a prestigious position within the Xiao family. Even her grandfather, the Grand Elder, couldn't do anything about it.
"Hey, Sister Xiao Qun, isn't that Xiao Yi over there?" someone beside her suddenly pointed out.
Following the voice, Xiao Qun saw Xiao Yi walking with a young man. Seeing the smile on Xiao Yi's face, Xiao Qun felt even more displeased. She believed that the position of direct disciple at Tianyu Peak, Ji Yan's junior sister, should have been hers, not Xiao Yi's. Xiao Yi had taken what rightfully belonged to her.
Thinking about this, Xiao Qun coldly called out, "Xiao Yi!"
Hearing the voice, Xiao Yi's smiling face immediately fell.
"What bad luck!" Xiao Yi muttered under her breath.
Lu Shaoqing, noticing the cold smirk on Xiao Qun's face as she approached, asked, "Who is she?"
"She's my cousin," Xiao Yi replied. "We've never gotten along since we were kids. She's a total pest."
When Xiao Qun got closer, she sized up Lu Shaoqing. "Oh, who’s this? Did you find yourself a man already? Is this your new protector?"
Xiao Yi angrily retorted, "Xiao Qun, stop talking nonsense! This is my second senior brother."
"Second senior brother?" Xiao Qun looked at Lu Shaoqing with disdain. She had never heard of him before. She only knew of Ji Yan at Tianyu Peak, and didn't care about anyone else. After all, she was the granddaughter of the Xiao family's Grand Elder, a status no so-called direct disciple could surpass.
"Second senior brother? Is there such a person?" Xiao Qun sneered. It was no wonder she looked down on him; even within the Lingxiao Sect, many didn't know about Lu Shaoqing. How could someone like Xiao Qun, an outsider, be aware of him?
Lu Shaoqing looked at Xiao Yi with genuine curiosity. "Did she grow up eating shit? Her mouth sure stinks."
Xiao Yi couldn't help but laugh. This was classic Second Senior Brother—he could really infuriate people with just his words.
Sure enough, Xiao Qun was instantly filled with rage, glaring at Lu Shaoqing with gritted teeth. "You dare insult me? Do you have a death wish?"
"I was just curious," Lu Shaoqing continued, looking genuinely surprised. "With a stench like that, it's hard to believe you didn't grow up eating shit."
"And to think," he added, his expression one of shock, "you actually look human! But it turns out you're just a dog. Could you be a dog demon that has taken human form?"
"Ha ha..." Xiao Yi burst out laughing, completely unrestrained.
Xiao Qun was trembling with anger, her eyes practically shooting flames. She wanted to burn Lu Shaoqing to ashes right then and there. Even the people standing around Xiao Qun were struggling to hold back their laughter. It was their first time encountering someone who could be so outrageously insulting.
Xiao Qun was furious, her voice rising to a shrill pitch. "Who the hell are you? You dare to humiliate me? I won't let this go!"
Lu Shaoqing looked genuinely puzzled. "I was just being honest. Who's humiliating you? Don't jump to conclusions, little girl. You're being unreasonable."
"I'm the most polite person you'll ever meet," Lu Shaoqing said earnestly, "I would never insult anyone. Right, Xiao Yi?"
Xiao Yi nodded with a broad smile. "That's right, Second Senior Brother is a good person."
Lu Shaoqing quickly added, "But don't hand out 'good person' cards too freely."
Xiao Qun was on the verge of exploding. This guy's words were so infuriating, especially since he delivered them with such a sincere expression that she almost believed he was telling the truth.
She was so enraged that if it weren't for the last bit of reason she clung to, she would have already drawn her sword and attacked him. A jerk like this deserved to be hacked to death.
Since she couldn't out-argue Lu Shaoqing, Xiao Qun decided to redirect her anger toward Xiao Yi. She glared at Xiao Yi and said, "So, you've decided to team up with an outsider against me? Are you betraying the Xiao family?"
Xiao Yi coldly responded, "He's my second senior brother, not an outsider."
"Second senior brother, my ass!" Xiao Qun scoffed. "The only person I recognize at Tianyu Peak is the senior brother."
Lu Shaoqing asked, "And who are you, with such a big mouth?"
Xiao Qun sneered, "Hmph, I'm the granddaughter of the Xiao family's Grand Elder."
Xiao Yi reminded Lu Shaoqing, "Second Senior Brother, the Grand Elder is a mid-Nascent Soul stage expert."
Upon hearing this, Lu Shaoqing immediately adopted a respectful tone. "Oh, I see! The granddaughter of Elder Xiao? Why didn't you say so earlier?"
"My apologies for any offense just now. I hope Miss Xiao won't hold it against me. It was all a misunderstanding, truly."
Huh?
Something about his tone and attitude seemed off.
Xiao Yi was confused. Xiao Qun was equally puzzled.
Did his attitude just change?
Xiao Qun began to feel smug, thinking that her grandfather's reputation was indeed powerful. After all, who would dare to offend a mid-Nascent Soul stage expert? Not even the Lingxiao Sect would dare.
Smirking, Xiao Qun taunted, "What, scared?"
Lu Shaoqing stiffened his neck and said, "It's not fear, really. I just think we're all family and shouldn't create such conflicts."
Xiao Qun sneered even more. "Family? Look in the mirror, would you? Do you really think you deserve to be called family?"
"I'm your cousin's senior brother, and you're her cousin. If we're not family, what are we?" Lu Shaoqing replied with a polite bow. "I hope Miss Xiao won't be angry."
Xiao Qun looked down on him even more, turning to Xiao Yi with a sneer. "So this is your Second Senior Brother? He's nothing but a spineless shrimp."
Xiao Yi was furious, tugging at Lu Shaoqing's clothes. "Second Senior Brother, you don't have to be afraid of her."
But Lu Shaoqing casually pushed her hand away. "Don't be reckless. This is the granddaughter of the Xiao family's Grand Elder. We can't afford to offend her. A mid-Nascent Soul stage expert, that's no joke."
Xiao Yi was taken aback. Was Second Senior Brother really someone who bullied the weak and feared the strong? That didn't seem right.
Xiao Qun burst into laughter. "Haha, at least you know your place."
"Compared to Senior Brother Ji Yan, you're nothing. No wonder I've never heard of you. So this is the so-called Second Senior Brother of Tianyu Peak. What a joke."
Lu Shaoqing's eyes lit up. "Miss Xiao, do you like Senior Brother?"
Xiao Qun's face reddened slightly, but she didn't deny it. "So what if I do? Ji Yan is amazing. Why shouldn't I admire him?"
"Would you like to meet Senior Brother?" Lu Shaoqing asked. "I can take you to him."
This instantly extinguished the fire in Xiao Qun's heart.
"Re-really?"
No one could refuse such an offer. Ji Yan was the dream of many girls, and Xiao Qun was no exception. She had often dreamed of Ji Yan, but had never met him up close.
She had only ever seen Ji Yan from a distance. Now, hearing that she could meet him face-to-face, Xiao Qun was immediately excited.
"You can really take me to see Ji Yan?"
Lu Shaoqing nodded. "Of course!"
But Xiao Qun wasn't entirely gullible. She suspiciously stared at Lu Shaoqing. "What are you up to?"
Xiao Qun remained cautious, glaring at Lu Shaoqing. "What's your plan?"
"I'm warning you, don't try to trick me. I won't fall for it."
Lu Shaoqing replied, "Why would I trick you?"
"Come on, I'll take you to Senior Brother's place. He's there right now."
