Rubi's perfect Christmas | Las navidades perfectas de Rubi [Rubi] [Pin] [Navidad]

Pin had put away all the training tools just in time for the rest of the brothers to come in and start setting up the first decorations and environments of the maze. After barely dodging a couple of metal fences, a huge tree hit him in the face throwing him to the ground and knocking him completely unconscious. When he was helped to his feet, it was someone else who was in charge...
Rarely did Rubi have the opportunity to take over the boy's body with such discretion. It was only a matter of time before they noticed, but for the moment no one had seemed to suspect his bad manners, nor his sarcastic smiles. He had thought to escape for as long as he could, leaving a trail of chaos behind him so large that it would take the Blood Brothers years to clean it up. Especially after having imprisoned him in that squalid little rube. But, realising that everyone was too preoccupied with their own business to notice the situation, he thought he'd make it a little more interesting... What if he opted for something more subtle for once?
Although the church did not celebrate Christmas, but Yule, everyone there called it this way out of pure custom. They had set up altars, prepared decorations, bought gifts and cooked some specialities. For some it was seen as a festival of unity and thanksgiving, but nothing could be further from the truth. Animals were sacrificed, fallen deities were sung to, and there were tests of courage and skill to test the novices. Especially the younger ones. For Rubi, the children's crying looked most invigorating.
The last time he thought of doing something similar he was caught and thrown in a cell, but even now he had no regrets. The difference is that this time he was determined to sign and own every act of vandalism. The first thing that occurred to him was to sneak into the kitchens, fake his best face of clumsy cordiality and, as soon as the supervisors stopped looking, sneak a jar of pepper in the mixers or alcohol in the children's fruit salad punch. Anything that would destroy the flavour or make a mess. The bottle of laxative in the pudding seemed like his best work.
When he had finished sowing chaos that could not be seen until many hours later, he thought he should sabotage the tests of courage. Not only to make them more dangerous than usual, but to ensure that the prizes were as terrible as possible. The dungeons contained all manner of weapons and instruments of torture, and most of the rooms were unsupervised. He brought out some rusty old bear traps, hoping that some reckless brat would lose a leg. He also filled the trap-pits with wooden stakes and covered all the exits of the labyrinth with thorns.
As for the prizes... He opened the gifts from the tests of courage. The vast majority of them were of no interest, the odd beginner's knife or decoration... There was no silver, no gold and even less drugs or really dangerous weapons. After disposing of the trinkets, he left inside the boxes a much more personal and, above all, smelly gift.
Having managed to sabotage two of Yule's favourite activities without anyone even noticing him, he thought it was time to take a little more risk. He released the goats that were destined for the midnight sacrifices and left discreetly so that no one could connect him to the incident. He heard the abbess's scream from afar many hours later. When the animals had invaded much of the church including the catacombs. They had taken to devouring everything they could find and urinating and defecating in every corner.
He didn't have much time left, so he would spend his last bullet on a classic, especially for the demons of anger.
"You pathetic demon!" the abbess bellowed from across the room. Rubi lit the lighter just in time for a band of velvety cloth to ignite and sweep halfway across the room in a couple of seconds. The room filled with smoke, smoke that didn't slow the woman down.
"I regret nothing, witch! " a loud laugh was heard before the room fell silent again. A single blow was all it took for the abbess to knock the demon down and send him into a soporific sleep.
It was Yule's worst celebration, especially for Pin. Everyone accused him of ruining the festivities by not being attentive enough. Even several days later, some of the damage his companion had caused was found. Nova spent three days in the bathroom and a novice almost lost an eye. But inside the boy's head, Rubi hadn't had as good a time as he had that day.
