Devlog #023

This month we come with a lot of energy and things we would like to tell you, especially you, our patreons. We recommend you to read especially the 'other' section where we will expand on everything that has to do with Patreon. However, we anticipate that this month we will make several official announcements (translation, new Patreon ladders, billing survey etc.), we hope that all these implementations will be received as improvements which is our main intention. We are trying to strengthen this platform. If you have any questions or suggestions, we welcome them.
- Writing
As you know, art and writing do not usually go at the same pace. Our goal is to close the script as soon as possible, also to be able to provide the script to our possible future translator. We'll try to close it during this month, but we can't guarantee that this will be the case. At the moment it is 50% complete and we will continue to work towards our goal.
For translation, we have good news and bad news. We've received far fewer applications than in our first call for applications, and those who have applied have done so under time constraints. It's likely that we'll solve one or two episodes, but if we don't receive any new applications, we'll probably only be able to postpone the problem. We understand that it's hard and demanding work and not everyone will have the preparation, time or desire for a project like this. However, we'll continue to look for alternative ways to find a suitable translation for CHR. As always, you will be the first to receive any news about it.
- Art
As you have already seen, we have the first of three backgrounds. Many of you can imagine what area it is, but we can confirm that it corresponds to the place where Jordan, Pin and Arael fall. Apart from the backgrounds, we'll have two new characters, which will be the work we'll be doing next. These two secondary characters are two middle-aged mutants; a man and a woman. At the moment, we can't tell you if their role will be good or bad, we hope that their appearance can give you some clues about their future role. On the other hand, although the script is still progressing, we can't say exactly how many CGs there will be during this joint episode. Our intention is that there will be more than three... For the moment, that's all we can say in this regard. As for expressions... No, episode 10.0 won't have any new character expressions, but there will be some supporting art (shadows and objects).
As for Witch Tales, we've decided to officially reactivate the project. We have the space to be able to combine it with CHR (where the game we submitted for the contest used to be). In addition, we'll probably have to turn to this project as an alternative source of funding for the translation. If WT becomes our main project, it will ALWAYS be after finishing chapter 10 and on a temporary basis (until it is finished). For the moment, and for this month, we're only planning a redesign of Opal's costume (the green one) and one or more (up to three) of the ghosts that are part of the story already presented ('between seams').
- Programming
Reactivating the WT project will probably push us to revamp the CHR image galleries and profiles. The reason is simple, all our games share very similar interface styles. As of today, WT still doesn't have a gallery and it is one of the necessary improvements that this project needs. If we implement these new galleries in the project, the renovation of CHR will follow right after. At the moment several rough sketches of the gallery have already been made and the navigation buttons of the main menu have been changed. In any case, sooner rather than later, it will be something we have to do as a matter of course.
- Others
As we told you above, we have decided to improve the Patreon levels. We would still like to add new rewards, but, at the moment, we don't have the means to do it (sending postcards/stickers). The changes we have in mind are as follows:
*Mutants: To what already exists, we will add sketches and lineart of sprites (new) and discord advantages (a channel for all our patreons where you can communicate with us in a more direct way).
*Humans: In addition to what already exists, there will also be sketch and lineart previews of all CGs.
*Supernaturals: As an improvement, sketches and lineart of the backgrounds will also be published.
In addition, a new level with limited places will be added: 'deity'. Where monthly commissions related to our games will take place.
We'll explain all this better in an official announcement, but for the time being, let it be clear that the current categories will be maintained with their current benefits and prices. We also intend to open a billing survey very soon. In any case, all these changes will come during this month. Stay tuned.
Steam relies directly on unfinished cover art and other artwork. Due to all the changes we have already told you about, you will be able to see how the cover art is progressing in a more direct way. Very soon we will publish the general sketch. This work will take some time because, like other projects, it is done in gaps in CHR's production.
We have already talked about reactivating the WT production, although for this month we are only planning to move forward on the things we have already talked about in art and programming.
So much for our November forecast summary. Thank you for your immeasurable support and see you next month or in the next releases.
Toxic Squad. ☠️
