Indeed it is odd when I'm familiar with visiting grandma's farmhouse on an actual farm, and then seeing the aesthetic altered for mass consumption and packaged up neatly for sale at the local mall.
I live in a small-ish midwest city and these are popping up like avocado green shag rugs in 1975. Oh and damn near everyone has a Yeti along with a power boat in the drive.

As someone who lives in the most city-esque area of a very rural state, this is not even close to what anyone up here thinks of when "farmhouse style" is mentioned. Farmhouse style up here involves mudrooms, barns, wood stoves and grandma's old furniture. Makes me all the more sure I live in the right state!
