That does sound like a nice solution and definitely increases my interest in the game. The Wonderful 101 uses a similar system in case you're not aware, although it's probably messier since it can hit multiple targets and (I think) has a kind of soft-lock of its own. Anyway, it sounds interesting, thanks.

The channel lags behind my thoughts on things pretty significantly so I've been thinking about context sensitivity for a long time. When I saw the context sensitive grappling hook in the first trailer it dampened my enthusiasm for it so I still haven't played it yet. I really like movement-based games and it looks good in other ways so I know I should give it a shot but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I recommend Vernal Edge. It has an interesting take on a lock on attack, plus is a 2D action game so given your recent context sensitivtity video I think you would get a lot out of it. (Ignore below if you don't want to know about the lock on mechanic) Basically you tag enemies using an attack that only goes in cardinal directions, once the enemy is tagged then you can use an attack that hones the player character in on the enemy. This to me seems to solve the "fuzzyness" you described in your video regarding lock on systems.

Curious if you have any thoughts on Solar Ash?

Hey Matt. I highly recommend the game 2Dark. It's a stealth horror game made by the creator of the original Alone in the Dark. I found the game to be surprisingly great, it has a bit of a learning curve and the first level was a bit weak, but the game overall is a great experience. I think playing with a controller is more comfortable for this game than mouse and keyboard so it'll be a good fit for the steam deck.
