Honestly Arya was the wild card this whole season, she should’ve been the one to infiltrate the red keep and kill Cersei and avoid all the other bloodshed. They should have laid siege like they said but not attack the city.

Yup, there's a reason people refuse to accept anything after season 6 at the latest. Season 5 was the beginning of the downfall of the show with that mess of a Dorne plot and each season only got worse. Also keep in mind that this season aired the same year that we got Endgame and the last Star Wars Sequel. One finale that was actually fantastic, two that completely shit the bed.

Jon not killing the Night King was purely done to subvert expectations. The writers literally said that the build up between Jon and the Night King was too predictable so they made Arya do it. They literally sacrificed character arc to subvert expectations. And this episode is another example of it; Jamie reverting, Tyrion being stupid asf. I will say though, there are signs about Daenerys throughout the entire show. Everywhere she goes, chaos erupts. Sure, it was just terrible people before, but how many terrible people/things can you witness before the ends justify the means becomes the go to.
