Hong Kong was British at the time, so no the KMT didn't go there. Bizarrely, the last area of the "Mainland" the Nationalists lost was Hainan Island in 1950, now a corrupt garbage dump even by Chinese standards

For once, at least some Western media were quick to debunk Xi's attempt to rewrite WW2 history. In fact, one guy used almost the exact phrasing you two often do when correctly noting Mao and his people did nearly jack-sh!t against Japan while the KMT, heavily supplied by the USA, genuinely fought and sacrificed.
