The demon’s severed heads hit the ground.

Holt’s jaw dropped.
He rubbed his eyes and looked again.
The demon’s body, now headless, was dissolving into smoke.

Still staring blankly at the rising smoke, Holt turned toward the voice he heard.
Standing there was the Saintess.
She tucked her disheveled hair behind her ear with calm grace.
