"I started at the bottom," Aiko said severely. "With nothing. Nothing but godlike powers, years of experience ruling over 2.5 countries, and the best education that my home could offer me." She waved a hand at the village, inadvertently cutting through the steam from her tea cup. "And now look at me. I've mastered this rice hamlet."
'Say anything. Look confused, tell me I'm a liar. Let me know that someone is thinking in there.'
"It's a very nice hamlet," Izuna said placidly, and fuck, he might be a real idiot? Aiko frowned at him as he sipped on his own tea.
'I choose to believe he's playing metaphorically dead. He can't be that incapable of inference. Right?'
"Why are you here," she said flatly. Her cup hit the table with a decisive clink. "You didn't know I needed an escort, so that's certainly not why you came."
Izuna blinked at her. She would have liked to say that he blinked up at her, but he was, in fact, audaciously taller than her.
