Updated Role Icons & Naming Convention | ETHEREAL
🕑 Added 2022-10-12 18:20:19 +0000 UTCHappy Wednesday Patrons!
We are extremely excited to share some updated designs for our role icons! In the past tests, we've had some placeholder assets which were our golden role icons generally in the design of Fire, Ice, and Void with a dedicated grass shape icon for JG, and staff for support. We really liked these concepts for our game but knew they were not up to par with everything we've released thus far.
As such it was important for us to update these icons for the future of our game, and also update the names of the roles from just Fire, Ice, and Void to be in line with the MOBA industry's accepted terms of Off-Lane, Jungle (Fire & Ice Jungle in our case), Mid Lane, Carry, and Support. In doing so, we hope that the mixture of the traditional designations of roles and the design of the icon will encourage and help players determine where these lanes are traditionally played in Ethereal. While we want our overall meta to adapt to what the players decide, we also feel it's important to help facilitate where possible, and iterate if necessary.
For instance, if in the future you, our community, decide that Void lane is a better place for the duo lane, we have other icons ready to signify that carry and support should be going to that lane instead and will update our role selection accordingly!
We'd love to hear your thoughts on all these new icons and the idea behind our naming of the lanes!
Can't wait to continue our development journey with all of you, see you again later this week with another Skin Concept!

I like these icons. I feel like it also helps new people coming in, to make it one less thing they need to learn as ethereal already has a lot going on.
