New York Comic Con review and my sick pythons =3
🕑 Added 2016-10-14 17:13:52 +0000 UTCI've spent the last week preparing some spoopy costumes for your guys that I wanted to surprise you with (probably with a frightening 'BOO' or something. I would spook you so much), with the plans to shoot today, but the photographer had to cancel due to a family emergency. So what do?! I'll write about my NYCC experience and how I made my Gaston cosplay, as well as get Patreon rewards out!!
I can now definitely say that NYCC is a cursed con for me :D NYCC was my second convention ever four years ago. It was my first time in the Big Apple by myself, first time staying at a hostel, and only my second time at a big convention by myself, my first being DragonCon only two months prior.
Let's just say it was a disaster. The con environment of NYCC was overwhelming, the catcalling and constant disrespect from outside the con and in the con alike in my first-ever sexy costume made me feel like slime, and having no friends, throwing myself in a vat of all of this was just a bad bad idea. From then on out I still traveled alone and adventurously, but I definitely did so with friends to meet up once I was there and people to see.
My second NYCC I didn't even make it on the plane. All my costumes had gone totally wrong, I had gone too long without sleep, and I was going through a lot of emotional issues completely unrelated to cosplay that made me, when they called my name to get on the plane, I just walked away and went home.
This is my third NYCC and I can't say it was great! I was supposed to have three new costumes-- Gaston, Louise from Bob's Burgers, and one freestyle costume I could've done anything with; I had a bunch of ideas, and ended up going with the most complicated, most challenging to complete in a day costume I could possibly imagine. Why the heck would I do that?! Because I feel inspired to impress you guys. I feel driven to work hard to keep creating beautiful work you (specifically YOU GUYS) enjoy. In the end, though, I ended up ruining the most simple costume a girl can make (louise is a green dress and a hat. HOW?!) and I ended up feeling stumped on how to make the other creations I could've made last minute.
Once at the con, I kept having to run through obstacles and jump through hoops, and ended up finishing the weekend with less money than when I started and quite a few bad memories,
but you know what?! Friends make everything better. I've met so so many amazing people in this community and I walked away with a hope that this community is still the best thing that has ever happened to me.
Oh gosh, this post ended up way longer than I expected! I'll write up a Gaston sick pythons post and post it separately =3
