Here's spoiler-free info you can know from Oda's q&a: Crocodile became a Warlord around 20 years ago and was defeated by Whitebeard right after. There's a theory about his secret that you can think about, but whether it's a meme or plausible is up to you. Given Ivan's powers and the fact he goes by SIR Crocodile, the "Lady Crocodile Theory" says he used to be a woman. (Also his face is not shown in ep 0, just his back) There's a spinoff theory. Since Ivan knows Dragon, the "CrocoMom Theory" says that Lady Crocodile could even be Luffy's mother.
