The fault Series is now officially in Unity (f'ing FINALLY)
🕑 Added 2018-08-05 19:50:44 +0000 UTC As the title suggests, the fault series is finally... finally running in Unity. In celebration, we're making a mini series of teaser videos to show to show off to the public what we've been working on / what this means for our production. For those of you that have been our patrons for a while, you all probably know about the string of unfortunate events that have plagued the fault series' production, especially when it comes to this Unity port.This port is vital to our operation for 2 massive reasons:
A) It's the only viable option for us to make console versions of the series.
B) We needed to break free from the constraints of RenPy in order to progress in our visual storytelling.
A is quite obvious. I suppose there are other tools that will make the port easier but we had to plan for this massive step forward with the future in mind and Unity was the best choice for us at the time and still is now.
B is a bit more complicated, perhaps for more sentimental reasons. There is no doubt that RenPy is a phenomenal tool, especially for beginners. It's been the foundation of our operation for our entire existence and everything we've made so far has been made with RenPy. But, as many of you know, I have a background in visual storytelling and there are techniques I've always wanted to implement since day 1 of starting ALICE IN DISSONANCE but couldn't due to the limitation of being stuck in 2D. The camera was the best we could do... and if we're going to even attempt to push the phrase "Cinematic Novels" further into the mainstream, I need the proper tools that can make this possible. Some people look at the amount of effort we put into the visual side of the production and find it overkill but my goal is to further popularize this genre that is typically reserved for adult games and make it more appealing to the masses. In order to do this, eye candy is an absolute must. It's my opinion that visual novels haven't progressed much ever since its foundation because no one is trying to push its boundaries... but I digress. This is a story for another time.
Mhakna Gramura and Fairy Bell to us marked the end of our production with RenPy. This means that SILENCE THE PEDANT will be released in Unity as well.
I plan on writing a break down of some of the technqiues we are using in the teaser video above in a patrons only post so if you're a game dev that's even remotely interested, make sure to give it a peek!
I'm not gonna lie... I have been dreaming of this day. It seems like we've been in darkness for the longest time and this light at the end of the tunnel almost seems like it's a lie since we've never seen fault running on Unity. So many porting houses and programmers have failed to do so. Some disappeared, some out right gave up. ITS BEEN SO LONG. I've been wanting to update our patrons about wtf has happened to our main production for over a year now and today I can say with confidence now that this shit happening 100% for sure because this time we are doing it ourselves.

this looks pretty amazing! personally, I already thought StP looked like a huge step forward for the Fault series in a stylistic approach, but the video looks like the Unity port takes it to a whole other level. I'm really psyched, and am looking forward to seeing more!
