Chani's Star : Space Jam 27XX
🕑 Added 2021-06-26 18:25:24 +0000 UTCAs the ship's general liason, there was a lot that Goldie Galethorn could handle with a smile. First contacts, meeting arrangements, low-rent tar monsters that looks suspiciously like one of the crew members wearing a garbage bag, the works! Even her pregnancy was leaving her even more glowing than she already unnaturally was after her minor mineral mishap.
And being somewhat of a flake meant that there was a lot that she'd just take at face value, which might've helped with adapting to new and unusual societies and customs.
But this? Even she had to wonder what exactly was up with this tournament they were in today.
Somehow, herself and Bonnie Redfern stumbled upon a strange flyer in their boyfriend's inbox for some sort of "Local Solar System Maternity B-Ball Fest" and, well, the pink part of their threesome got it into her head to "show those other bastards who's boss" and signed up half the crew, as there had been a...bumper crop that year for fertility.
Unfortunately Bonnie didn't read the fine print on the date and it was months before the big tournament began, making it so dangerously close to when half of them were due. A few even popped before the day even came! Notably there was a rumor going around that Trellane Barton had herself induced the week before to avoid dealing with all this. And Rae, well, okay Rae could be full of eggs on a coinflip but for once she was cleaned out.
Heath Rhydirk, the aforementioned boyfriend, found out about all this about a month before the game and decided he was going to be the team coach. After a further few days explaining what basketball was to him, he settled into silently watching everyone waddle around in tiny uniforms that he'd hastily provided on the cheap. Goldie didn't mind, as one of the more, uh, normal sized players she didn't stick out too much, and was just happy to see everyone hanging out. Bonnie must've misread the washing instructions on hers as it seemed to have shrunk after the first practice, but she didn't seem to mind, and neither did Heath come to think of it.
Goldie did have to wonder how poor Dr. Silverbush was holding out as she was having quite a few babies, and despite only being a little over halfway to term was easily twice the size of everyone else around, including Bonnie and her near term quadruplets, and her own twins of course. Nevertheless, Yasty seemed to be enjoying the exercise, mentioning that "pretty soon I doubt I'll be able to stand up let alone run around!" The fact that she wasn't already at that point mystified some folks of course, but Goldie trusted her judgement. After all she was a doctor!
Confusingly, though, Dr. Madalena's sister Lornesta Medaloc was on the team too, but she wasn't pregnant? Sure, she was nearly as round as Bonnie but she kept insisting she wasn't, so it must've been a coincidence. But, Heath just shook his head and said she was perfectly allowed to join up. Goldie wasn't entirely certain why she ended up agreeing to this, and also didn't notice the crate of donuts under the paperwork Heath slipped to the chubby nurse.
Madalena herself was one of the dropouts, but was tagging along anyway as the team medic and ob/gyn, for fairly obvious reasons even to Goldie. She'd left her month-old newborns with her partner Talever back on their own ship to do so, but she had been confident he'd be fine with all the supplies and instructions she'd left him.
And that led them all to the day of the game.
Dr. Mad was there in the stands at the moment, munching on a hot dog, waving a pennant with their team logo, and keeping a watchful eye on her patients, just in case.
Ah yes, the team. The Chubby Bunnies, as apparently Calerians resembled some strange Earth creature, and most of the team was, at this point, Calerian. Yasty thought it sounded cute as she frequently watched adorable animal videos on her breaks and fell in love with these 'rabbit' animals, whereas Bonnie seemed annoyed until she heard it was Heath's idea, then was all for it. Goldie wondered if maybe there was something a bit off about comparing the two species like this, but also found them cute so she didn't mind as much.
They were up against a team whose name roughly translated to "warrior breeder hive 72" mostly made of a species of alien that barely resembled any two legged sapient species she'd ever seen. Said creatures were hard to describe, but at the very least seemed utterly unencumbered by whatever reproductive systems they had. Mercifully they apparently couldn't jump, so this first quarter had been going well for the bunnies. Except for Lorn, who kept hunching over like she'd pulled a muscle or something, the poor thing.
A subtle thing that Goldie didn't miss, however, was that something was clearly wrong with Bonnie. As much as the pinker Calerian seemed to dismiss the idea, the two were close, which is both what made their little triangle work, but also why Goldie could tell she was having an off day. She kept pawing at her back and tensing up strangely at regular intervals, and after mentioning this to Heath during a penalty throw, found out that Bonnie had been in labor the whole day.
That...wasn't good, right? Especially since she refused to hit the bench, and kept on playing through it. Surely all this hopping about would cause an unfortunate accident? She tried to ask her directly but Bonnie just huffed and said she was fine.
Alright, fine. Instead she turned her attention to Yasty, who despite her size and how quickly she got winded, was seemingly having a blast, and was deceptively good at three pointers.
Quickly though she was drawn back to her sorta-girlfriend Bonnie, heaving and grunting and yelling at everyone around her, which wasn't that odd really but knowing she was in labor still had her worried. She still hadn't gotten a replacement for the uniform she shrank, and her prodigous chest was threatening to burst out from every angle of her jersey. Part of her did think it was kinda hot, sure, but the rest of her thought she looked maybe a little ridiculous like that?
But again, the heaving, and sweating, and bouncing...okay it was mostly hot. She watched her high-speed waddle past one of the opposing aliens, getting an eyeful of her backside wiggling away crammed into those tight shorts, and then Bonnie launched herself over a defender-
Dripping all the way. Goldie looked down at where she leapt, and there was a puddle of fluid. She looked back up, and as Bonnie slammed a sweet dunk, she also saw a unfortunate wet bulge pressing up against the front of her shorts.
Now she was universally a pleasent, chipper sort, so it even took her by surprised when she slapped her palm to her face and muttered "Damn it Bonnie!" She looked next to her and Dr. Silverbush had also noticed, and the look of panic and terror on her face spoke volumes. Goldie sighed and motioned for a time out, which Heath eventually called when he picked his jaw up from the floor.
Who even runs this sort of thing?
