Pin-up: Laura Valazquez - Part 1

The Colombian scientist was slightly older than Maya, the chief scientist having accelerated to surpass her due to her scholastic genius, while she remained as an assistant scientist. However, Laura held no grudge over that fact, instead helping to rein in the often enthusiastic Maya in her experimentations.
But this time Maya's reckless youth may have finally caught up with her. Laura had cautioned against studying the alien artifact alone, but Maya insisted that no one else need to be exposed to the risk. Not long afterwards, a power surge and a large data flux into the chamber caused the station to enter into an emergency mode, locking up the chamber.
Laura tried to use her augmented eyes to access the chamber visual feed, but the data flux seemed to have caused a problem with the network, forcing her to physically access from the panel right outside the chamber.
The panel was all flashing in red error messages however, making Laura fear for the worst. Then, a loud thumping could be heard behind the door, louder and louder. "Maya?", Laura shouted, "Are you ok?"
