You guys talking about how the discourse around the books treat them like they’re so serious and realistic when they aren’t reminds me of the way people talk about Avatar the Last Airbender. I rewatched that show for the first time as an adult, and was surprised by how the realistic portrayal of war, radical politics, and deep character psychology that the internet seems sure that show has just weren’t actually there. It’s way more of a normal kids cartoon than people seem to realize.

i think your thoughts on this one being more enjoyable than the first one echo the fandom’s thoughts for sure! granted, i’m absorbing a lot of the present day fandom through whatever trickles onto my feeds, but when i read these in their heyday, catching fire was for sure the fan favorite, for both the book and the movie
